Wind River (2017) director – Taylor Sheridan has made waves by co-creating the long-running series, Yellowstone, which stars actor Kevin Costner (The Untouchables) in the leading role of John Dutton. Though his series branched out into spin-offs shortly after.

The spin-offs, 1883 and 1923, released in 2021 and 2022 respectively, depicted events that told the tale of the original Dutton settlers in Montana and the challenges they faced.

Sheridan, however, went to great lengths to include two of Hollywood’s biggies in the series, Tom Hanks (Catch Me If You Can) and Indiana Jones actor Harrison Ford.

Hanks and Ford rose to fame during the 1980s and according to The Digital Fix, they haven’t yet shared the screen together. Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone spin-offs got them on board which, earlier seemed like an unthinkable feat to achieve.

Tom Hanks and Harrison Ford Acted in Yellowstone Spin-offs

Working with a critically acclaimed director like Steven Spielberg multiple times, both Harrison Ford and Tom Hanks have, over the years, displayed strong leading-man capabilities.

Despite that, directors in Hollywood were never able to bring the two veterans together to maximize the appeal of the film. That changed with Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone spin-offs.

Hanks appeared in an episode of 1883 – ‘Behind Us, a Cliff,’ as General George Meade. Though it was a cameo, it made headlines and boosted the overall impact of the show.

Ford took on the main role in last year’s 1923 as Jacob Dutton who took over the empire left by his brother James Dutton, played by Tim McGraw.

Taylor Sheridan Almost Broke The Unspoken Rule

Ford and Hanks couldn’t interact in the series as they appeared in different timelines, but that just goes to show that Ford and Hanks’ characters have close proximity somehow as McGraw’s James Dutton did interact with Hanks’ George Meade.

Taylor Sheridan is only expanding his Yellowstone verse and bringing these two A-listers on board the show states that he knows how to make use of his strong reputation among actors across generations.

He would have shattered the unspoken rule if he had written the two characters in a way that would make Hanks’ George Meade appear in 1923 alongside Ford.

Season 5 of Yellowstone is expected to mark the end of the road for Kevin Costner’s role, as it was reported by multiple media outlets in May.
