Tekken 8 has clearly been a resounding success, and fans are loving the newest take on one of the most beloved video game series of all time. With the massive push that fighting games have been getting recently, it’s no surprise that this game is as successful as it is, especially considering that its predecessor, Tekken 7, sold over 10 million copies worldwide.

This newest installment in the long-running franchise brings back many familiar faces as well as three notable newcomers: Reina, Viktor, and the one who has caused the most controversy, Azucena M. Ortiz, the eccentric coffee-loving MMA champion.

If There’s One Thing Fans Dislike About Tekken 8, It’s Azucena

Tekken 8 presents quite possibly the most annoying character in the franchise's long history.
Tekken 8 presents quite possibly the most annoying character in the franchise’s long history.

Azucena has a very well-fleshed-out movelist. Compared to newcomers in previous installments of the series, she has several stances, multiple parries, and beautiful animations. But the problem isn’t necessarily her movelist, which, granted, can be quite annoying at times against spammers. The problem is her personality, more or less.

Her personality can pretty much all be explained in one word: coffee. Her obsession with coffee is so painfully annoying that an entire Reddit post has gotten fans discussing how it’s the weakest part of her character. She’s got an amazing movelist and gorgeous character design, but her demeanor is incredibly frustrating.

Simply titled “Does Azucena have a single voice line where she doesn’t mention coffee?“, fans are discussing what they hate most about this character.

No , that’s her entire personality. She likes, sells and is addicted to caffeinated products. – Ok_Balance_1278

All she does is go on and on about coffee again and again, and it’s charming for a bit, but as you spend more hours with the game, the cracks in her character begin to show. It may even be enough to make someone drop the character entirely. She just simply isn’t expressive enough in any other way to make the player’s time worthwhile.

She Literally Sides with a War-Waging Company Just for Coffee

What is this woman's obsession with coffee?
What is this woman’s obsession with coffee?

For those who have played the game’s story mode, The Dark Awakens, or even if you’ve just seen the official story trailer, you’ll know that Azucena sides with Kazuya Mishima and G Corporation, aka the evil side. What’s annoying about this isn’t the fact that she joins the bad side; it’s that she doesn’t have a valid enough reason to join it in the first place.

This franchise has always been goofy, but a woman joining a company waging war against the world just for her coffee brand is a bit much. And you bet fans are making fun of this:

“I will join the company waging war against the world if it means I can sell more coffee” – soji8

When it comes to story, this also got some discussing about other character’s allegiances in the story, particularly those that ended up siding with Kazuya. Regardless, the story was still excellent, but when it comes to Azucena, it’s clear that many think that Bandai Namco missed the mark.
