A woman recently blew up the Tekken community by explaining how her father named her, and her two siblings after characters from the beloved series.

A user on TikTok named Ninaeyu recently came out and explained that her father is an old-time fan of the revealed fighting game series Tekken. With the recent release of Tekken 8, Nina goes on to explain her father was a big fan of the game series, even playing in tournaments. She goes on to say “I feel like if he was my age today, he would have been a gaming streamer.”

Tekken Fans May be the Most Loyal of Any Fighting Franchise

Nina was named after the popular character, Nina Williams. Nina Williams, known as a “cold-blooded assassin” made her first appearance in the original 1994 Tekken game. She is one of three playable characters that has appeared in every Tekken installment to date.

Nina’s younger brother was named after another, maybe even more famous character. Jin Kazama, or Jin. Many Tekken fans claim that Jin is the hero or protagonist of the series. Making his first appearance in the 1997 Arcade version of Tekken 3, as well as the 1998 PlayStation version. Jin was an interesting character starting out, a mixed-move set of Jun Kazama and Kazuya Mishima. He was quickly a fan favorite. Jin eventually went on to win the third ‘King of Iron Fist’ tournament by defeating Ogre, also known as True Ogre in the last phase of the battle.

Nina and Jin’s final, and youngest brother, was also named after a Tekken favorite. Hwoarang, a Taekwondo student from Korea, joined the series at the same time as Jin, in Tekken 3. Ironically, unlike these two brothers being named after these characters, the in-game Jin and Hwoarang, were tense rivals. There are many times in the storyline of Tekken, that these two get into it.

Even once so to the point, Hwoarang indirectly lost his eye because of Jin. The history between these two in-game is complicated, but that doesn’t mean the reality of these brothers is nearly as intense as the virtual versions.

Tekken Isn’t Going Anywhere… Thankfully

Tekken 8 looks absolutely stunning and plays even greater.

Tekken is one of the longest, most consistent fighting games. Competing for almost thirty years with other big arcade originals like Mortal Kombat, and Street Fighter. Tekken also has one of the longest-running, consistent stories of fighting games, without any reboots.

On September 21st, Tekken will hit its 30-year anniversary. It’s racked in new players with all of its entries to the series, and even with Tekken 8, many new players and generations join the tournament. Tekken has gained a following that I could see continuing on for many years, on social media and in E-Sports alike.

Whether playing new or old entries to the Tekken series, or just tuning in, we at Fandomwire, approve of Nina, and her brother’s names. Hopefully, she’ll continue the tradition and pass on gaming names to her children.

Tekken 8 has now been released on Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 5, and PC.

My name is Jacob, I’m from a small town in Ohio. You can normally find me grinding the new CoD, playing Tekken, and on my Quest 3, or breaking out the PS2. If I’m not on my playing something, I’m usually fishing or in the woods somewhere.
