A WWE career that spans over two decades, John Cena has a feud with several renowned wrestlers such as Brock Lesnar, Kurt Angle, Roman Reigns, and many more. But none could match the magnitude of the feud he had with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. While the feud lasted for a short period of time, it had most of the effect on Cena’s career.
The rivalry between the two stars is something that happens once in a generation, it started in 2011 and lasted till 2013 but it was full of twists and turns in this legendary feud. While the feud is now over and John Cena is focused on making a name for himself in Hollywood, he has set his eyes on his old rival and battling Dwayne Johnson in the DCU. However, James Gunn sabotaged the possibility by kicking The People’s Champ out of his DCU.
John Cena Sets His Eyes On His Long-Term Rival Dwayne Johnson
John Cena joined the DCEU in 2021, as Peacemaker when James Gunn was brought in to make The Suicide Squad which was a massive hit. The film tells the story of various DC villains going on missions so that they can get time off their prison sentences. While he played the character for a short period, he managed to make it a fan-favorite character, catching the attention of the co-CEO of DC Studios.
However, during an interview with Comic Book, John Cena shared his thoughts on battling his old rival but this time on the silver screen. This was in response to Johnson finally suiting up as Black Adam for the DCEU.
“Please tell me what [Dwayne Johnson’s] answer is. You know me. Ready, willing, and able. And answering the phone whenever it rings. I’m good. I think that the excitement is starting to build with fans, whether you talk about the conversation of Fast, or you talk about now the DC Universe. I don’t want to say we’re on a crash course and it’s inevitable. I want to because I’m a fan. But we’ll see. We’ll see what happens. Tell me what he says.”
However, it looks like fans have to wait for an unspecified time before watching the two wrestlers turned into actors taking on each other on the big screen. As, Dwayne Johnson has been forced to exit from the DCEU as he got caught under new leadership, and his film Black Adam had to go through a plethora of changes affecting the final product.

Dwayne Johnson Publicly Criticizes DCU and Warner Bros.
Following James Gunn’s take over of the DCEU as co-CEO of DC Studios, Dwayne Johnson announced that he will not return to Black Adam as his film of the same name hit the theatres, bringing his tenure as a superhero to an end, for now. However, things did not stop there as Johnson has been publicly criticizing Warned Bros. for their poor decisions.
While he was present on the Hart to Heart Peacock talk show, Kevin Hart asked his friend why he wouldn’t be returning as Black Adam in the DCU. The Rock stated that his character got stuck “in a vortex of new leadership,” and how Warner Bros. underwent so many changes in leadership that it affected the final version of his film.
“I think that Black Adam got caught in a vortex of new leadership. And at that time as we were creating ‘Black Adam,’ developing it, shooting ‘Black Adam,’ we got knocked down a little bit because of COVID and the shutdowns, got back up, there were so many changes in leadership.”
The actor continued to criticize the Warner Bros officials after the release of the film which ultimately led to him being forced out of the franchise.
“And as you know, anytime you have a company, but especially that size and magnitude… and you have all those changes in leadership, you have people coming in who, creatively, fiscally, are going to make decisions that you may not agree with, philosophically.”
“So I think ‘Black Adam’ was one of those movies that got caught in that web of new leadership, and that will always be one of the biggest mysteries, not only for me and us on our end, but also throughout our business.”
Dwayne Johnson stated that he had an “audience first” mentality and that’s his bottom line as he will not do any film that made him question this mentality of his. Hence, he decided to part ways with the franchise.
