And on one such occasion her performance, along with her co-star Keanu Reeves, was so good and complimenting that the film received an Oscar Award. But while talking to famous talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, the star came to know just how that role was never supposed to be hers, and that she stole it away from Ellen.

Known throughout the industry as one of the best hostage action/thrillers, Speed was a film that became an iconic piece of cinema history that helped Sandra Bullock in her career tremendously, along with giving her a chance to work with her crush Keanu Reeves. But during her appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the host revealed that Bullock was the reason she didn’t make it in the film alongside The Matrix star.

In a past interview with Ellen DeGeneres, the Bird Box star revealed that she had a crush on Reeves when they were shooting for Speed and that they could’ve been a thing if the situation was right. Then, the host interjected, saying that the role was meant for her. Reportedly, the role of Annie Porter was supposed to be a humorous one from the beginning, which would’ve been right up DeGeneres’ alley, but due to a change in the supporting character’s nature later in pre-production, it was switched to a more serious one. She said:

“It was meant for me and you took the role. It’s true.”

Not only would this have been a chance for the Finding Nemo star to work with Reeves, but she would’ve been able to kiss him in the movie as well, a kiss that Bullock shared with the star instead towards the end of the film.

Speed, to this day, is considered one of the best hostage films in history, all thanks to its pulse-pounding action sequences that just don’t seem to take a break as it keeps on pushing these scenarios to the extremes. Along with its action, the film also had very well-integrated special effects that enhanced the experience to the next level. The film follows Jack Traven, an LAPD bomb squad member who is called to duty when a mad bomber takes several hostages and demands a hefty ransom. In the case of failure to pay, he would cause mass bombings all over the city.
