What Convinced Tim Burton to Choose Jenna Ortega for Wednesday?

It is no secret that before the actress Jenna Ortega became a household name, she established herself through a series of small roles in television and cinema. Throughout her career, the actress has been a part of many incredible horror projects, including Insidious and Scream. And much to many people’s surprise, that is what helped her bag the coveted role in Netflix’s hit The Addams Family spin-off series Wednesday. While speaking with BFI, Tim Buton confessed,

“She’s one of the most aware, not only as an actress, but everything, around the camera, the set. She’s a very special talent. And she’s done a lot of horror movies, which I love too. That gave her a special place in my heart. “Oh, you’re doing another horror. Good.””

Much like the viewers of the show, the director also finds himself absolutely enamored by the young actress’ work on screen. He expressed in no uncertain terms that there is simply no other actor who could have done what Ortega did with the role, as he stated,

“When I did Wednesday, the reason I loved it is I just related to the character so much. But to me, it could not have been done without her. You can write it good, you can do whatever you want to do, but that kind of a character would need such clarity and purity and strength. A person has to have that. So for me, she basically made the show that way.”

Therefore, it is safe to say that the director is an absolute Jenna Ortega stan!
