In numerous Elden Ring fan theories, various characters have changed stances; some have gone from positive to negative. People have even started suggesting that maybe even Melina, the maiden, and the player’s trusty companion, Torrent, are not as they seem. And these are done in such a way that every reader would agree to it; they would not be able to resist the urge to say, “Maybe it’s true.”

Now, a brand-new fan theory is focusing on one of those characters that fans could not even imagine to be negative. It suggests that Miquella might just be an unexpected mastermind in some of the most destructive things that take place in the Elden Ring!

Did Miquella push Queen Marika into breaking the Elden Ring?

Elden Ring breaks way before players enter the lands between; in fact, they are there to literally pick up the broken pieces of that destruction. It is said that Queen Marika went mad after her son, Godwyn the Golden, was killed and just destroyed the thing in a fit of anger.

Then there’s Radahn; he is the other side of Marika, the side Greater Will created to keep Marika in check. But does he succeed? No, he does not; the proof is in the fact that the ring has now been shattered, and Radahn picks up his pieces and gets to work trying to mend them. What’s ironic is that he is said to be using the same hammer Marika used to break it to fix it.

The anti-hero of this story was Ranni; she wanted to break her shackles. She wanted to escape the fate that the Greater Will had written for her, and that’s why she gave black knife assassins a blade infused with the rune of death to use on Godwyn.

Then she used the same blade on herself to free herself from her form. This plan worked, but it brought such destruction to the Lands Between that it looks nothing short of cruel on her part. Then again, what would one expect from a person coming from a line of demigods that have used everyone else for their own devices?

In this equation, only two people seemed a bit sane: Malenia Blade of Miquella and Miquella, her brilliant brother. Both of them were just focused on protecting each other and giving each other a normal life by eradicating their respective curses.

Miquella as seen in Elden Ring

But there’s a high chance that Miquella might just be one of the culprits that started the great war. Maybe Queen Marika was not as mad as people think; maybe she was staying put and not reacting to what had happened to her son. But Miquella pushed her into breaking the Elden Ring.

Why did he do this, though? one might ask. The answer can’t be more obvious; there’s a massive alternate tree called Miquella’s Haligtree. People harassed by the Golden Order and fed up with their rules find solace there. Malenia is forever placed there to try and heal herself; it’s pretty evident that Miquella did not have much love for the Erdtree.

Maybe this was his way of breaking the shackles that Ranni hated so much. Maybe he thought that if he pushed Malenia to break the Elden Ring, something would happen that would improve his and his sister’s chances of creating a better world and a whole new order. This might be a stretch, but one thing is for sure: the greater will is pretty manipulative, and there are chances that Miquella and Malenia were fed up with her ways.

What is happening in the Shadow of the Erdtree, though?

Recently, in an interview, game director Hidetaka Miyazaki confirmed that the character fans saw in the artwork of Shadow of the Erdtree is indeed Miquella. The question that continues to linger is: What is he doing there? He is definitely looking for something to set his plans in motion, but what?

He also suggests that Marika is already there, and Miquella actually follows her into the shadow land; this only thickens the plot.
