Why did Graham Norton hate Harvey Weinstein on his show?

Graham Norton has often spoken about Robert De Niro being the worst guest on his show. Due to his quiet nature, interviewers are not very fond of the star. But Norton changed his statement after Harvey Weinstein went behind bars. The Irish comedian revealed that the Oscar-winning producer frustrated him when he wanted to appear on his show forcefully.

In 2015, when Harvey Weinstein appeared on The Graham Norton Show with David Tennant, Olivia Colman, and Jessie J. Norton, the Shakespeare In Love producer was not called. He forcefully entered the show even after being informed that the slots were full. Graham Norton revealed that Harvey Weinstein kept emailing him to appear on the show.

“And actually, it was weird, because he asked for my email. And he emailed me something very nice, a complimentary thing. And then he decided he wanted to be on the show, because he was going to promote something. And it was a show that was fully booked, so I replied saying ‘Oh, thank you so much, but the show is fully booked.’ He emailed back: ‘What if I blah de blah de blah.’ [I replied] ‘No, the show is fully booked, blah de blah.’”

The story didn’t end there as Weinstein kept on disturbing the host. The 60-year-old also added that he misunderstood this attitude in the beginning but now he knows how this behavior was a clear hint to his personality.

“At the time, I thought that sort of attitude, that kind of ‘Oh no, I’m going on’, that is what makes you a very good producer. But of course, now that we know what we know, that is what makes him a predator. It was that kind of weird, tunnel-vision thing. And it was sort of chilling in retrospect, because I was just laughing at those emails. But you realize ‘Oh my God, that is an insight into how that man is.'”

In a recent interview with The Observer, the Emmy-nominated actor publicly revealed that the producer bullied him to leave the project. Weinstein even said that if the Luther actor doesn’t agree with him, then he might also lose his career.

“It was a bullying tactic that didn’t sit well. The way he explained it was a shock to me. But I suddenly sat in the room very present, and happy and strong in myself to say, you know what, I’m not beholden to that. I’m stepping away.”

But the threats didn’t work as Joseph Fiennes cleared that even though it wasn’t very helpful for him, it was not much of a big deal either. Harvey Weinstein is currently serving his 23 years prison sentence in New York which got extended to 39 years after the Los Angeles trial.
