Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have been close friends since their initial days in Hollywood. The former recently revealed how he relied on Affleck for 25 years following his rise to fame.
In the latest edition of PEOPLE magazine, Damon shared how he counted on his strong bond with Ben Affleck after they rose to fame following the success of their 1997 film Good Will Hunting. The two actors are co-starring in the new movie Air.
How Ben Affleck Helped Damon Handle Fame
Describing their friendship as “everything to me,” Matt Damon expressed to the outlet that it would be “unimaginably harder” without Ben Affleck’s presence, who is also collaborating as his co-writer on the new film.
“It’s been really helpful to check in with Ben throughout this whole surreal process over the last 25 years. I think the shock of becoming famous is so… I mean, that messed me up for a couple years,” said Damon.
“Because the whole world just starts to treat you differently. And so your subjective experience changes. It’s like somebody rewrites your code in the Matrix, but just your code,” he continued.
Affleck Aknowledges Special Connection With Damon
Ben Affleck, renowned for his work in The Town, also expressed that he has a special bond with Matt Damon. “Having Matt has meant the world,” Affleck said, “It’s not just Matt. It’s Matt’s dad who I adore and love enormously.”
“He passed away recently. And his mom and stepdad, his brother. His kids, who just came to the premiere and made me want to burst into tears because they’re so beautiful and grown up and amazing. You get to be part of somebody’s whole life in that way. It’s been an enormous gift” he added.
Both actors debuted their production house, Artists Equity, with their latest film Air. The new venture aims to provide the cast and crew members a fair share of the film’s profits.
Air Off To A Flying Start
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s latest film Air has finally hit the theaters and receiving rave reviews. Damon plays the real-life former sports marketing executive Sonny Vaccaro, while Ben Affleck portrays Nike’s co-founder Phil Knight. Viola Davis, known for her role in The Woman King, plays the role of Michael Jordan’s mother, Deloris Jordan. The duo decided not to cast anyone for the part of Michael Jordan. Instead, they used the actual footage of the NBA star’s career milestones.
As for the storyline, the movie delves into the origins of Air Jordan basketball shoes. It will depict the historic deal between the rising NBA star and the sports brand. Air Jordans are arguably the most loved shoes in the world.
