Jada Pinkett Smith confessed she has been in a healing process since her separation from Will Smith in 2016. She also talked about dismantling the idealized perceptions she has built for herself during her marriage with the actor.
The ex-couple’s tumultuous relationship has been the talk of the town since the infamous Oscar slap. Fans would remember that the Emancipation star smacked comedian Chris Rock live on television after the latter made an insensitive joke about Pinkett Smith’s alopecia.
Jada Pinkett Smith Reveals She Was In Deep Healing Process
During her interview via CBS Mornings, actress Jada Pinkett Smith talked about her breakup with Will Smith and shared that it was the best thing she had ever done to get to know herself more. She stated:
“I would say that separation did work because I really feel like, for myself, I needed time for emotional maturity. First of all, I was in a deep healing process, and I think I needed to really dissolve some false ideas of what marriage is, false ideas of what I thought Will needed to be for me versus what I needed to learn to be for myself in order to have a loving relationship, so I had to really do some deep healing.”
After Pinkett Smith revealed the details of her split from her ex-husband, fans accused her of emasculating the actor. She defended herself and said:
“I think people should understand if you read the book, you get a better understanding of what that particular situation was. Will decided he wanted to come to the table, and at that time we weren’t together.”
The actress also pointed out that both of them went to follow their own choices in life as a way of coping with the situation they are in. Unfortunately, for Pinkett Smith, she took the hit:
“That was Will’s choice, and so I think at that particular point in time, we were both going through a process of dissolving this idea of what a relationship should look like and really just being honest about the difficulties that come with being in a long-term relationship, and at that time, I decided to take the hit being an adulterous wife which was not true.”
The Gotham star has been very open about discussing her troubled relationship in public. In fact, she also spoke about her failed marriage on her own talk show, Red Talk Table.
Jada Pinkett Smith Says There Will Be No Divorce
Earlier last month, Jada Pinkett Smith admitted divorce was never an option for them. Despite the struggles they are facing, the ex-couple would try to sort things out. She told the Associated Press:
“We love each other. We are figuring out right now as we speak, what that looks like for us. But there’s no being separated. There’s no, ‘We’re going to get divorced.’ I’m not giving up on that dude. And he’s not giving up on me… So, let’s just stop, and let’s get to this deep healing and figure this out.”
Over the years, Pinkett Smith has held up a façade of a perfect life while fighting depression that she admitted turned into a raging hellfire.
