It all started with Baby One More Time. This song usually comes to mind when people think of Britney Spears. The song was Spears’ debut album, released on January 12, 1999. She was about to be 17 and already had a smash hit single with this title track.

Since then, Spears has given back-to-back hits and made a name for herself in the industry. There is another song for which she is known for – Don’t Hang Up. The song was taken from her fourth full-length studio album, In the Zone, as a bonus track on the album.

The song’s production gives oh-so-dreamy vibes, and Spears’ ooze of s*x appeal in her vocals makes the song more racy. But there’s a weird history behind its production. The producer of Don’t Hang Up has claimed it was written about grubby phone calls between the pop star and Irish actor when they dated back in 2003.

Joshua Schwartz, who produced the track for her album In The Zone, told The Original Doll podcast:

“That song was about phone s*x.”

He said Spears went on a dating spree and started seeing Colin Farrell. Schwartz recalled how the singer was on the phone with the actor all the time, so he thought that’s where the inspiration for the song came from. He also said that “It wasn’t anything like too deep.” The producer went on saying and continued:

“I was in LA when she informed me about her date with him. I recall saying, ‘I don’t know who that is.’ She replied, ‘Minority Report,’ have you seen it? Why don’t you watch it tonight?’ And I watched it and thought, ‘Oh, he’s cute, good luck.'”

The song Don’t Hang Up was included in the international releases of Britney Spears’ fourth album, In the Zone, from 2003. The album featured popular singles like Toxic, Me Against the Music, and Everytime. In 2008, Spears addressed phone sex once more in a bonus track called Phonography on her Circus album.

The singer appeared on the red carpet at the film The Recruit premiere with her handsome Irish actor Colin Farrell. The stars went out on one date and were later spotted kissing on the balcony of his hotel room. But Farrell denied the dating rumors by saying he was just a 26-year-old single guy and having a good time.
