But as of now, James Cameron and his team haven’t revealed much about the movie’s plot. Instead, a rumor surfaced that Avatar 3, will be called Avatar: The Seed Bearer. This particular update about the film title, simply stunned fans, as many believed that it was an awkward title. Acknowledging the buzz on social media, producer Jon Landau thereafter confirmed that the third film won’t be named The Seed Bearer.

Rumored Title for James Cameron’s Avatar 3 

Following the success of Avatar (2009) which follows the story of disabled marine Jake Sully (Sam Worthing) as he travels to the alien planet of Pandora, James Cameron came up with Avatar: The Way of Water in 2022. While the time gap between the two movies stunned fans, they were even more shocked to know that it took Cameron 15 years to make the first film.

Thus, given his dedication and patience towards filmmaking, it was quite evident why the movie turned into an epic piece of art. Further, after the billion-dollar success of Avatar, James Cameron confirmed his future Avatar sequels.

That’s when people got to know more about his then-upcoming Avatar: The Way of Water  (2022). But what stunned fans more than ever was the name of Avatar 3. According to the article posted by BBC News, Cameron’s third installment was to be named Avatar: The Seed Bearer. While fans claimed that the title was quite preposterous, the director refrained from making any comments.

Jon Landau Shared Title Update for Avatar 3

Over the years, James Cameron has remained relatively silent about what Avatar 3. Sitting tight-lipped about the plot of the movie, the filmmaker even refrained from making comments on the title of the third sequel. He told ET in 2019, “I can neither confirm nor deny…Those titles are among titles that are in consideration.”

However, producer Jon Landau heard the buzz on social media about the title of the third sequel and therefore confirmed to change it. Speaking with ComicBook while promoting the Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora video game, the producer informed that they will change the title from Avatar: The Seed Bearer, to something better.

After producer Jon Landau confirmed to update the title of the film, fans rejoiced on X and expressed their opinion on the same. Stating how preposterous the rumored title was, some even compared it to the titles of p*rn films. But right now, netizens are relieved with the update and are focused on learning more about the plot of the film.

Unfortunately, Cameron didn’t spill much about it and only stated the upcoming sequel will explore “different cultures” from what he has already shown.

Featuring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, and more, Avatar 3 is currently scheduled to release on December 19, 2025.
