“That was a day I will never forget”: Tom Cruise’s Insane One-Handed Stunt in Mission Impossible 7 Left Director in Absolute Awe

Tom Cruise and his Mission Impossible stunts are absolutely one of the most surreal scenes in Hollywood. The American actor first took up the role of Ethan Hunt back in 1996 and it has turned into one of the biggest spy movie franchises in the world over the span of more than 2 decades. Cruise is all set to reprise his role as Ethan Hunt again in the 7th sequel of the series, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, and the fans are more excited than ever.

Tom Cruise does stunts that throw the audience in complete awe. From hanging off the side of Burj Khalifa to jumping with a bike from the side of a cliff 6 times in the same day, he has never failed to amaze us. However, one stunt from the upcoming Mission Impossible movie was allegedly so bizarre that even the director, Christopher McQuarrie was left shocked.

Everyone has been talking about the insane bike stunt from the upcoming Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One where Tom Cruise allegedly jumped from the side of a cliff 6 times in the same day to get the perfect shot. However, Paramount Pictures recently dropped the behind-the-scenes of another bizarre scene from the movie which even left the director, Christopher McQuarrie in shock.

Tom Cruise allegedly drove through the crowded streets of Rome in a car chase scene in the upcoming Mission Impossible movie while being handcuffed to his co-star, Hayley Atwell. McQuarrie also talked about the car-chasing scene in the movie and said,

“We came to Rome to shoot something with a lot more ambition and unpredictability that we haven’t had in previous chases. Everything we shot is completely practical. We let the city tell us the kind of chase it’s going to be. Traffic in the city is notorious and the cobblestone streets make all of the driving unpredictable. The best part is Tom and Haley are handcuffed together.”

Even Cruise’s co-star, Hayley Atwell was left shocked after filming the scene.

Well, “Tom Cruise doing Tom Cruise things” is the best way anyone can describe the actor’s insane stunts from the movie. Doing a car-chase scene through the crowded and narrow streets of Rome is one thing. Now, imagine doing that while being handcuffed to someone. Haley Atwell was the one Tom Cruise was handcuffed to in the car chase scene and she talked about the filming of the scene. She said,

“Tom driving and drifting one-handed through the streets of Rome, that was a day I will never forget.”

Cruise and Atwell went on to ditch the BMW for a customized Fiat 500 in the scene and filmed even more intense chase sequences in that car. Christopher McQuarrie even noted that it would have been really impossible to shoot that scene had it not been for an actor like Tom Cruise.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is all set to be released on July 12, 2023.
