Sarah Michelle Gellar was not Excited for the Cruel Intentions Reboot

Cruel Intentions is a film that very quickly became a cult classic for the fans. Starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Reese Witherspoon, and Ryan Phillippe, it had an impact on the world of media in an unexpected manner. Although it has some sequels, none could stand next to the original in such a manner. However, As per the New York Times, Gellar was never fond of the idea of a reboot.

“I don’t know. That was a whole crazy time. Nothing against NBC, but Cruel Intentions is straight streaming. On the first day, I was like, ‘This isn’t working.’ It’s just not a network show. And if it is a network show, it’s not my Cruel Intentions. So, I was actually grateful.”

When the reboot was announced, she was absolutely against the idea. According to her, that is not a story meant for a network to adapt to. She thinks of it as something not fit for the network but would have preferred seeing it on streaming immediately. In fact, she was grateful it never came through.

Sarah Michelle Gellar Does Not See Her Character Worthy of Redemption

Sarah Michelle Gellar admitted that her character from Cruel Intentions, Kathryn Merteuil, does not need any redemption. As per the New York Times, she noted as to how there are various people of today’s day and age who want every character to be redeemed, something she rather likes.

“I think that not everything in life gets wrapped up with a happy bow. There was never going to be a happy ending because I don’t think she would allow herself to have it.”

Although she does not seek the same fate for her own character. For her, everything mustn’t be happy and Katheryn to come to terms with her ill fate was necessary.
