Joss Whedon in a 2003 interview with IGN discussed the making of his popular supernatural series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Giving answers to many intriguing questions related to the series, he also revealed the story behind naming the protagonist as Buffy. He shared,

“It was the name that I could think of that I took the least seriously. There is no way you could hear the name Buffy and think, ‘This is an important person.'”

He continued,

“To juxtapose that with Vampire Slayer, just felt like that kind of thing – a B movie. But a B movie that had something more going on. That was my dream.”

He further mentioned that the studio asked him to change the title but he refused their request for a reason. He added,

“The network begged me to change the title. I was like, ‘You don’t understand. It has to be this. This is what it is.’ To this day, everyone says, ‘Oh, the title kept it from being taken seriously.’ I’m like, ‘Well, f*** them. It’s a B movie, and if you don’t love B movies, then I won’t let you play in my clubhouse.'”

The name did wonders for the show as it intrigued fans to kickstart the series to satiate their curiosity meanwhile the show keeps one hooked with a variety of plots. While the show enjoys a devoted popularity, it is also infamous due to the alleged on-set environment.

After the show came to an end, several of the cast and crew associated with the project reported about the alleged treatment they got from the writer.

In a 2020 interview with MetroUK, Gellar’s stunt double and stunt coordinator, Sophia Crawford and Jeff Pruitt shared that their dating allegedly didn’t sit well with the director at the time. “Although we loved making the show, by season four I’d become fed up and told them I was going to leave to direct Second Unit on another series. The producers told me that Joss reacted as if I was having an affair or something behind his back.”
