One of the most popular anime Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure has seen his fair share of protagonists as the series moved further. The series started with the adventures of Jonathan Joestar and developed further with Joseph Joestar, Jotaro Kujo, Josuke Higashikata, Giorno Giovanna, Jolyne Cujoh, Johnny Joesta, and Josuke Higashikata. Among them, the only character that was not directly related to the long family tree was Giorno Giovanna. Although, he had the blood of Joestar. He was the son of Dio Brando, whose head sat atop the body of Jonathan Joestar, the first protagonist.

Dio Brando became a vampire because of an ancient stone mask. But his son Giorno did not follow in his father’s footsteps. This was because of editor Hiroshi Sekiya.

Why did Giorno not become a Vampire?

Editor Hiroshi Sekiya talked about why it would be funny to make Dio’s son a vampire just like his father. In a recent interview, Hiroshi explained said:

“Dio’s body belongs to Jonathan, so he is part of the Joestar Family. In our initial meetings, we also discussed aspects of him being the child of a vampire, such as making him afraid of sunlight. Or perhaps he would ‘tingle’ when exposed to it. Araki-sensei also likes jokes, so we had a lot of that kind of tidbits in the character sheets. The last thing I’d like to mention is that he wanted the protagonist to be a woman.”

The Story of Giorno Giovanna

The son of Dio Brando was introduced as Haruno Shiobana. Giovanna’s story revolved around Italy. He wanted to make the place a better livelihood. By incurring some major losses and joining the Passione mafia, he was able to achieve his goal. He desired to become a “Gang-Star” to purify the filthy Italian mafia. His Stand is known as Gold Experience which could give life to nonliving things, which is mostly used to turn inorganic objects into living organisms and create body parts, acting as a healing ability.

The Importance of Italy

According to Hiroshi Sekiya, Giovanna’s adventure in Italy was decided from the very start. He explained:

“From the get-go, we wanted the story to take place in Italy. However, the protagonist had to be part of the Joestar Family, so even Araki-sensei wasn’t sure how to make it work at first. I (jokingly) asked him if he wanted to have Joseph have yet another affair, but we both ultimately decided that’d be a terrible idea (laughs).”

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Season 6 is rumored to be released in July 2024. Season 6 will focus on the Steel Ball Arc. It is believed that Season 6 will be a reboot of the series as Season 5 concludes the Joestar family’s five-season storyline and serves as a fitting conclusion. All five

e season of the anime series is available to stream on Netflix.
