There are many behind-the-scenes stories that interest the audience as much as the movie and sometimes even more than the movie itself. Mel Gibson’s co-star, Helen Hunt, who starred alongside him in the 2000 romantic comedy What Women Want, also had such a story from the set of the 2000 film. Hunt shared the story later during an interview, which required her and Gibson to film a kiss scene for a day and a half.

Hunt played Gibson’s love interest, Darcy Maguire, in the film, and as the movie progressed, their on-screen romance also got a little bit hot and heavy. One of the scenes in the romantic comedy required the co-stars to kiss passionately.

However, the filmmaker Nancy Meyers was not satisfied with the outcome of every single take for a day and a half. The Oscar-winning actress revealed that they filmed the scene over and over again for a day and a half. “I mean, 9 o’clock in the morning to 8 o’clock in the evening and through the next morning,” Hunt explained.

Filming the kissing scene got so intense with filming the same scene constantly that the actress got dizzying at a point. “It was honestly dizzying how much we kissed,” the Twister star further shared. However, the process did make her realize that her co-star is a fantastic kisser.

While Helen Hunt did share that constantly kissing someone like Mel Gibson must have been “some women’s dream,” it was not glamorous for her, as she started feeling “dizzying” at a point. The 60-year-old actress shared that she was left with no air due to filming the scene constantly.

However, it also allowed her to learn something about her co-star. She shared that the Mad Max actor was an avid smoker. However, it did not bother her that much, as she said that filming the kissing scenes with him was a “pleasure.” “He’s certainly a fantastic kisser in my opinion,” she shared.

Hunt also shared one of the habits of her co-star. She shared that Gibson is very perceptive about women. “I found him open and willing to listen and curious. That’s a very sexy quality if someone’s curious and really wants to know what you think,” she said, before adding that the Apocalypto director is the greatest guy in the world.

What Women Want is available on Prime Video.
