Sweeney revealed that she had auditioned for a version of the movie when she was sixteen years old and couldn’t get the script out of her head. The project was later scrapped and Sweeney decided to reach out to its writer and acquired the script almost a decade later.

“And so, 10 years later, I decided to make it.”

Sweeney further added that she worked with writer Andrew Lobel to rewrite the movie to match her as a 25-year-old. She later became attached as a producer and took the project forward to financiers and found a director. Sweeney proudly exclaimed:

“I produced. It was my first thing I ever produced..”
