The Boys is an incredibly loved and unique television series, having an impressive cast, with actors like Antony Starr, Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, and Jensen Ackles featuring in the series, as well as an amazing storyline. Being based on comics of the same name, the series is a sort of parody of other big superhero franchises like the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Universe. The characters in the series are also parodies of superheroes from other franchises, with Homelander being like Superman, Soldier Boy being like Captain America, Queen Maeve being a parody of Wonder Woman, and so on.

With a satire series such as this, it is only natural that some of its audiences may not understand the meaning and true intention behind these characters and take offense to copies of their favorite superhero doing some truly ridiculous and awful things. Chace Crawford, who plays the Deep, has opened up about receiving hate mail from angry fans.

The Boys Star Chace Crawford Receives Hate Mail From Fans Of Jason Momoa

Chace Crawford was an incredibly well-known and loved actor long before his appearance in The Boys, having starred in the hit television series, Gossip Girl, for many years. His role in The Boys, however, was much different from the preppy high school student that he played in the drama series. Crawford plays the character of The Deep, a parody of the DC superhero Aquaman, who has done some very questionable things on-screen which makes his rather unlikable, being perhaps one of the most annoying characters in the series.

“Occasionally on Instagram, I’ll get a, ‘F*** you, fish guy. You think it’s funny to make fun of Aquaman?'” he stated.

Because of Crawford’s portrayal of this character, many fans of Jason Momoa, who plays Aquaman in the DC Universe, have felt the need to send messages and hate mail to the actor to let him know how much they hate his portrayal of their beloved character. The actor revealed that he would get a comment or two on his social media where fans would curse him for the way that he played the character, criticizing him for making fun of the superhero.

Chace Crawford Does Not Mind The Negative Comments

The criticism that fans are pointing towards Chace Crawford is rather ironic considering the fact that the entire series is basically social commentary about what it would be like if superheroes existed in a realistic and capitalistic world.

“I’m like, perfect. That’s exactly what I want.” he stated

Homelander stands as the most obvious example of this, being the most powerful being in that universe, while at the same time being one of the most flawed and human characters in the series. Crawford, however, does not seem to mind these messages, instead finding it quite funny. He went on to add that these types of reactions are exactly what he wants.
