Robert Downey Jr.’s arc as an extensive Marvel mainstay has overshadowed almost every other aspect of his life and career. And yet he remains at the forefront of the public consciousness as an audience favorite for his extremely lovable and approachable personality. The constant jibes and inside jokes with the whipsmart wit and humor that plays on his tongue every time he appears in front of a camera – all of it makes Downey the model Hollywood star.

And within that enigmatic charm also lies the key to his box office stardom, something which people have returned to witness time and time again.

Robert Downey Jr. Has Answers To an Age-Old Dilemma

Ever since his epic and stratospheric rise in Hollywood through Marvel’s Iron Man and Avengers projects, Robert Downey Jr.‘s inimitable skills to be the perfect genius, billionaire, playboy, and philanthropist has kept the fans hooked to the edge of their seats since MCU’s first-day first show. But a more niche part of the crowd, who has come to recognize his work beyond Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe also knows about the dude playing a dude disguised as another dude.

Even though Tropic Thunder remains an underrated, cult classic masterpiece of Hollywood parody, the film is yet to reach the masses at the scale his Iron Man movies have. And yet, the demand still thrives for a sequel to the 2008 satire comedy. More recently, at the premiere event of his new show, Downey’s Dream Cars, which takes off at MAX, the veteran star gave a final answer to the long-awaited dilemma: Will there be a Tropic Thunder 2?

Although appearing hesitant at first, Robert Downey Jr. was very clear about the terms and conditions under which he would return as Kirk Lazarus in another project – “Look, all I’ll say is this. Tom Cruise and I have not done a project yet together. And that’s kind of a yes. And then we’ll figure out what the title is.”

To make matters easier, Tom Cruise is pretty much out of a job now that he appears to be closing out his Hollywood chapter with a hattrick with three consecutive years of box office big bangs, starting with Top Gun: Maverick in 2022 and the final two Mission: Impossible films in 2023 and 2024. With filming now complete, there remains no more reason for the two Hollywood juggernauts to delay the obvious any longer.

Armed with a decked cast comprising Robert Downey Jr., Benicio del Toro, Jeremy Piven, Gerard Butler, and Eva Longoria, Jamie Foxx set out to direct a film that would remain not only shelved indefinitely in the vaults of Hollywood but controversially mysterious and tight-lipped about its contents that led to its scandalous fate. However, the little that is known about the reasons for its cancellation is that the state of comedy and politics in the current era is not going to be receptive to the film that Foxx has directed with All-Star Weekend.

In the film that essentially serves as an outrageous, often over-the-top, buddy comedy, Robert Downey Jr. plays a Mexican character while Jamie Foxx assumes the persona of a white, racist cop.” The play of race and racism in the film was too dangerous and egg-shelled to tread and Foxx was right to fear being canceled despite his comedic intentions and the creative liberty he took for granted while devising the script for the film.
