Conor McGregor is gearing up to make his film debut this year featuring alongside Hollywood actor, Jake Gyllenhaal. The duo is set to star in a remake of the 1989 cult classic film, Road House. While this is surely a big deal for the former, he recently revealed how he ended up upsetting some big names in Hollywood due to his past decisions.
Apart from becoming an actor, he was a multi-weight UFC champion, who has also invested in several businesses. While his acting journey is surely going to be a new experience for him, this is not his first offer in the entertainment world.
Conor McGregor Has Made a Few Enemies by Turning Down Acting Roles Previously!
While it’s surely a bliss for his fans to see him in a new light, Conor McGregor in a recent interview with TotalFilm via Games Radar spilled the beans on how this movie offer was not his first!
He shared,
“I had turned down a good few roles in my time on the climb.”
He added how a few top directors approached him with movie roles which he continuously rejected.
“I’ve had directors show up at fight camp, really beautiful directors doing really top-end movies… And over and over, they’d come to me, and I always turned them down…”
He believed that his constant rejections may have rubbed them in the wrong way.
“I’d leave people a little high and dry. I probably have a few enemies out there that I don’t really know of because I had said, ‘I might do it.'”
The Notorious is set to appear alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in Road House with the Edge of Tomorrow director, Doug Liman helming the project. The former is set to play the role of Knox, who will knock heads with the lead actor’s character, Elwood Dalton. The professional boxer also gave his insight into the filming process especially revolving around his character.
Conor McGregor Talks About Filming Process of Road House Remake
Conor McGregor further talked about why he eventually decided to venture into the acting industry after passing on the previous movie roles he was offered. Speaking about what he thought of the entire filming process, he explained, “I was just in awe of it all, to be honest with you, the whole process.”
He went on to share his true feelings of being unaware of how he would process everything. He believes that he’s a fighter rather than an actor but the process was truly fruitful.
“I didn’t know how I was going to take to it. I didn’t know whether I was going to like it, to be honest. I’m a fighting man – that’s my bread and butter. It’s where I come from… I’m not an actor, but I’m show business. That was my vibe to it. I felt that. I enjoyed every second of it.”
Elsewhere, the MMA fighter has also taken a blunt approach regarding the movie’s release. He told Total Film,
“I’d love for it to be in theaters. I’m for the theater. I understand the business, also … I’d love a call with [Amazon founder Jeff] Bezos.”
Recently, the film director shared his decision to boycott the movie’s world premiere on March 8 at the South by Southwest Film & TV Festival. It is because the film’s studio, Amazon MGM Studios, is releasing it directly on the streaming platform without a run in theaters.
Road House will be released globally on Prime Video on March 21.
