Initially set to die in the first episode of Barry, Anthony Carrigan has scored his third Emmy nod following his work as NoHo Hank, as his acting prowess ensured the character’s survival in all four seasons. And while the acclaimed series concluded with its fourth season, things are only looking luminous for Carrigan’s career moving forward, as he has been cast in James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy.
Set to play Metamorpho in the film, it’s not hard to see why Gunn, who is generally known for great casting instincts, chose the Gotham Star for the part, as Carrigan can deeply relate to the character.

Anthony Carrigan Could Resonate With Metamorpho Following His Alopecia
Prior to his ascend in Hollywood, Anthony Carrigan was told that he wouldn’t be able to book roles following his alopecia, which caused him to lose all of his hair at a young age. Carrigan, while worried initially, ended up proving his naysayers wrong after their comments boosted him to become more determined in his craft. And considering Metamorpho once thought he was freakish in look following his powers of transmuting his body before eventually coming to terms with it, Carrigan related with him on a deeper level. He said (via Rolling Stone),
“With all of my characters, I really try to find some sense of authenticity and truth on what I can relate to about the character. With Metamorpho, this is a character who was almost cursed with his powers and thought that he was freakish in terms of what he looked like and that’s something I could totally relate to because of my alopecia.”
Carrigan is further excited by the fact of getting to play a superhero, which is a healthy departure from his past roles, which mostly had to deal with antagonistic roles.
Anthony Carrigan Is Grateful to Get To Work With James Gunn
While the actor is thrilled to play the superhero that he can resonate with, the cherry on top is the opportunity to join forces with James Gunn, whom he had been waiting to work with for a long while. Even though he can’t reveal any major details about the upcoming DCU entry, which will shape the new universe moving forward, Carrigan expressed he is grateful to be a part of Gunn’s vision. He said,
“I can’t give away any of those details, but I can just reiterate that I’m so grateful to be part of it. I’ve been wanting to work with James Gunn for such a long time and this opportunity is the coolest that you could possibly get. I’m so, so grateful.”
