When it comes to live-action adaptations of literature works, changes are almost inevitable and Kevin Feige’s MCU is no different. But while straying away from the comics on certain occasions did work out for Marvel under the right filmmaker’s leadership, in many cases, deviating too far from the source material has often backfired for MCU.

The wasted potential of Taskmaster in Black Widow and MODOK in Ant-Man 3 are just to name a few, which neither sat well with the general audience nor comic readers, who didn’t take kindly to the changes. But Amazon’s acclaimed Invincible 2 will avoid falling into the same pitfall per showrunner, as despite adding something new for the fans, he assures it’ll remain faithful to the source material.

Invincible 2 Will Remain Faithful to the Comics While Offering Something New

Simon Racioppa assured that the new season of the critically acclaimed show Invincible, whose 1st season is standing at a near-perfect score at the Tomatometer, will remain faithful to the comics. And while readers of the comics can expect to witness everything they’re expecting, the new season will further focus on some new elements, including Sandra Oh’s Debbie Grayson. He told The Direct:

“I mean, I hope our fans get to see everything they’re looking forward to in the new season. We didn’t leave anything out. I think it’s more about… there’s places where we expand the story. One of the things we do, we spend a lot more time with Debbie in Season 2 than the comic books do just because we focus a bit more on her in the show than the books do. So that’s something that’s not in the books that you’re going to see in the in the season — more time with her.”

Whether the new season will live up to the hype remains to be seen, at the very least fans can expect a more faithful retelling of the source material with a few surprises.

The Characters Will Be Tested to Their Limits in the New Season Said Showrunner

Following his excitement about Invincible season 2, Simon Racioppa stated the characters will be tested to their limit both emotionally and physically, and fans can expect to witness some great drama. He explained,

“I mean, to me, great television is great drama. And that’s it, what it means is like heightened emotions, scenes where characters are tested to their limits, both physically and emotionally. And I hope we do that in a couple places in the season. And I hope that comes across to our audience.”

While sticking extremely close to the source material doesn’t always pan out in success, with one example being Watchmen, it’s reasonable to assume Invincible 2 will not suffer from that problem.
