Although Hugh Jackman has been gaining a lot of attention for his return in Deadpool & Wolverine, he has been a beloved figure for years. Ever since he first starred in 2000’s X-Men, fans have been fawning over him, not only loving his performance as Wolverine but also for him, as a person. Many love just how different he is from his character, being a lot more lighthearted and funny compared to Logan’s stoicism.
With this, many would expect him to be this goofy comic in his personal life also. However, in an older interview, he revealed the truth to be somewhat different. It would seem that to his children, he is almost as strict as the X-Man himself.
Hugh Jackman—The Bad Cop?
When it comes to parenting, many families go for a good cop-bad cop strategy, where one parent is more laid back and the other is strict. Hugh Jackman is known for being quite funny and unserious. His interviews showcase an easygoing personality, and he can almost be playful in every interaction he has. With this in mind, many would think of him as assuming the role of the good cop.
However, during an interview on Anderson, he revealed the truth about his relationship with his children. In this interaction, the actor was asked what type of parent he is to his two children, Oscar Maximilian Jackman and Ava Eliot Jackman.
I’m kind of strict. I’m more the strict one. Well, that’s sort of what I knew. My parents split up. My father brought up five kids and he’s a charted accountant. It was just very regimented. So that’s what I grew up with.
Interestingly enough, he revealed that he took on more of a disciplinarian role for his children. He seems to take on a stricter role with his children because of his own upbringing. Jackman revealed that his parents split up when he was younger, which made his father quite particular about how he would raise his children.
Knowing only this kind of lifestyle, he ended up taking a similar role with his own children when he became a father.
Hugh Jackman’s Ex-Wife Is More Laid Back
Many would be surprised to know that Hugh Jackman, who is known for being extremely nonchalant, is the stricter parent. However, their children do seem to get their easy-going parent in the form of the actor’s ex-wife, Deborra-Lee Furness. Jackman went on to reveal that his ex-wife’s childhood has also affected how she is towards her children.
He mentioned that Furness was from a quite laid-back household. Her mother was raising her on her own, and she did not have any siblings. This seems to have made her more compassionate and perhaps even helped her have a closer bond with her children.
Deb is [from a] single mother, only child situation. You know, it was kind of ‘whatever goes’. So we are literally opposite parenting styles.
Jackman finished by saying that their upbringing has made their parenting styles completely different from each other.
