Rob Lowe Demands Robert Downey Jr.’s Return as Iron Man

Actor Rob Lowe has caused a stir by suggesting Robert Downey Jr. return as Iron Man to save the MCU but on one terrible, yet valid condition. During the podcast, Robert Downey Jr. gets a call, to which Lowe gets excited and asks whether the Iron Man actor would reveal breaking news about Marvel, to which RDJ scoffs, “Not just yet”. The host went on to add that every MCU fan and follower would give anything to watch a Tony Stark comeback into the franchise, especially since the current situation of the franchise is not so well.

Rob Lowe said in his podcast Literally! via Variety,

“You know what I say. That phone is going to ring, baby, and I want to be on that call. I want to be negotiating for you. I know what your deal is. Here’s what you do. You go, ‘I’ll come back and I’ll play Tony Stark for you guys again since you f*cked everything up. But I want a gazillion dollars. I know what that number should be, and I want first dollar gross of every ensuing movie. That’s what I would do.”

Downey laughed and said, “That sounds quite hostile!”

But of course, it wouldn’t be free. Many would understand and even agree if RDJ’s asking price was way over the top, like a gazillion dollars for his part, or even royalty from every MCU movie, after all, it was RDJ and Iron Man himself who helped the most build the multi-billion dollar franchise. Although it seems highly unlikely that Marvel Studios would bring back Stark, the future is not set in stone, and with the introduction of the multiverse, anything is possible.

Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man: The Engine that Launched MCU

The impact that Iron Man and Robert Downey Jr. had on the MCU cannot be stretched. They weren’t simply the top film and entertainers; they were the spark that joined mainstream and pop culture. In 2008, superhero films weren’t a slam dunk and MCU wasn’t also a major name then. Iron Man wasn’t a highly recognized name, but it was brave to cast RDJ, who had a history of drug addiction. But his cast paid off spectacularly.

RDJ’s charisma changed Stark from a B-list hero into a worldwide symbol. Iron Man wasn’t a normal superhuman film, it was grounded, interesting, and brimming with defective characters. The character was a very rich person playboy with a troubled past, a long way from the legends of the past. This hazier, more reasonable tone resonated with crowds and set up the stage for many other complex characters that occupy the MCU today.

Iron Man laid the groundwork for the interconnected storytelling that has become a hallmark of the franchise. He turned into the essence of the MCU, the glue that held it together, and his presence is profoundly missed after his valiant sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame. His impact demonstrated that superhero films could be brilliant, amusing, and appealing, paving the way for the likes of Captain America, Thor, and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Even though Tony Stark is gone, his legacy lives on in the legends he inspired and the universe he helped both build and save. Although Iron Man and RDJ are no longer physically present in the MCU, their influence will still be felt for many years to come. They changed comic book movies forever and demonstrated to us that even a B-list hero with a troubled past could become a global phenomenon.
