Ricky Stanicky (2024)

Ricky Stanicky is in post-production and is due for release in March 2024. The comedy movie, directed by Dumb and Dumber’s Peter Farrelly, focuses on the eponymous imaginary character whom a trio of friends invented to blame for their inappropriate behavior over twenty years.

John Cena plays a washed-up actor who brings the character to life when the trio’s partners become suspicious of his existence. It sounds like such a funny concept, and Cena should be terrific in the role. The film also stars Zac Efron, Jermaine Fowler, Andrew Santino, Lex Scott Davis, and William H. Macy.

Grand Death Lotto is an upcoming action comedy movie by Bridesmaids director Paul Feig. It’s set in the near future, in which a “Grand Lottery” is founded in economically struggling California, whereby to claim the award legitimately, someone must murder the winner before sundown. Principal photography began in 2023, but the film hasn’t yet got a release date.

It stars Awkwafina as Katie, who finds herself with the winning ticket, and John Cena as Noel, an “amateur jackpot protector” who works with her to help her claim her multi-billion dollar prize. Simu Liu and Seann William Scott are also among the impressive cast. Grand Death Lotto sounds like bags of fun and is undoubtedly an intriguing concept, and it should see Cena thrive.

Heads of State

Russian-born Nobody director Ilya Naishuller will oversee the upcoming action comedy Heads of State. Very little is known about the film, but its fantastic ensemble cast includes John Cena, Idris Elba, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Paddy Considine, Stephen Root, and Jack Quaid.

The Hollywood Reporter has described the movie as “Air Force One meets Midnight Run,” which is quite the mix of great films. Cena and Elba are set to lead the cast as a pair of mismatched characters, so there’s a chance it’s following the buddy comedy formula. Regardless, with all the talent on show, it’s one to look out for, and Cena will undoubtedly hold his ground amongst them.

Coyote vs. Acme

The biggest movie on the list of John Cena’s upcoming projects is Coyote vs. Acme. The film will follow Wile E. Coyote’s attempts to sue the Acme Corporation for all the products he’s purchased from them that have backfired on him. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows director Dave Green oversees the project, and James Gunn is among the writers.

Will Forte plays Wile E. Coyote’s lawyer, who bonds with the cartoon character as the case progresses, giving him more motivation to win. John Cena plays the Acme Corporation’s lawyer, who goes up against them in court, and he’s guaranteed to be hilarious entering the world of Looney Tunes. Lana Condor and P.J. Byrne are among the supporting cast. Filming began on the $70 million project in 2022, but there’s still no release date confirmed.
