Although Luffy idolizes Roger and his principles, there are some secrets about the former Pirate King that Eiichiro Oda has kept hidden not only from the One Piece fans but also from his protagonist. One of those secrets revolves around the God Valley incident and Roger’s involvement in the battle that changed the One Piece world forever.

The Infamous God Valley Incident

38 years ago, the God Valley island witnessed an attack that shook the One Piece world forever. The island was used as a hunting ground for slaves by the World Nobles, and the entire event was broadcast to Mary Geoise. During the event, one of the slaves, Ginny, managed to leak the information about the island to the whole world, which caused chaos.

The first crew to reach the God Valley island was the Rocks Pirates, followed by Gol D. Roger, who was being chased by Monkey D. Garp for the longest time. Witnessing the scenes of God Valley, Roger and Garp decided to form a temporary alliance to defeat Rocks D. Xebec and save the people present on the island.

Finally, the alliance was able to defeat Rocks’ crew, and this gave the slaves an opportunity to escape from the island. However, the captain of Rocks Pirates was killed in action, resulting in the disbandment of the crew members.

The Biggest Gol D. Roger Secret Concerning the God Valley Incident

Popular One Piece YouTuber, Ohara, recently raised the question about Roger’s role at the God Valley Island. As the World Nobles are considered the epitome of evil, why would Roger form an alliance with his rival to save them? He had to have an ulterior motive that might not be as good as One Piece fans think Roger was.

The question is:

One massive issue popped up in a lot of people’s minds at this point since the World Nobles were using the island as a literal hunting ground for various races and slaves making a game out of killing people: why in the world would Roger fight against Rocks D. Xebec and for the World Nobles?

We do seem to know for a fact that this is where Garp and Roger together defeated the Rocks Pirates, but why is Roger fighting to possibly defend the absolutely worst people in the One Piece World?

While there is a strong chance that Roger only wanted to take down Rocks’ crew to make a name for himself, the events of the island were covered by the World Government, which earned no recognition to Roger and his crew.

Thus, he has to have a dark secret that is yet to be revealed by Eiichiro Oda in One Piece. If this secret changes the image of Gol D. Roger, it would bring an unexpected twist to the entire narrative.
