Robert Downey Jr. led the Avengers in the Infinity Saga as Tony Stark/ Iron Man for a decade. Following his introduction in Iron Man, he slowly assembled the original six Avengers with the help of Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury. Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Hulk, Hawkeye, and Iron Man would assemble for the first time in 2012’s The Avengers.

Giving closures to these six members was one of the major plotlines of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. Since then, Iron Man and Black Widow sacrificed themselves for the greater good, while Hulk, Thor, and Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye have gone on their own adventures post-Endgame. With audiences clamoring for a reunion of them in some way, Renner really wants it to happen down the line.

Jeremy Renner has been a seminal part of the Avengers since the first film, and while the character had no power of his own, the MCU tried its best to make him a relatable badass. Avengers: Age of Ultron and Avengers: Endgame presented him at his best, showing his sweet camaraderie with his family and also his dark side when they’re taken away from him.

He has since starred in his own solo series Hawkeye, which was generally enjoyed by fans. Following that, it is not known when he will appear next. There have been talks and rumors about the original 6 Avengers coming back in some way and reuniting. Robert Downey Jr. even doubled down on his openness to return as Iron Man in a recent Actors on Actors conversation with Variety.

Renner also expressed his desire to come back and reunite with his Avengers family in a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. The actor stated that while he does not know how and what the circumstances will be, a reunion with the Avengers will be awesome, and he’s always down for it. He said,

What’s the idea to get The Avengers together? How and why? What’s the purpose of it? I don’t know what this is. [When asked if he ever Googles Avengers: Secret Wars.] I’m always down for it, man. I think it’d be great. It’d be awesome. I’d love to be with everyone again.

There are unlimited possibilities for Hawkeye’s future in the MCU. There have been rumors about a Hawkeye season 2 happening, and he can also appear in the upcoming Avengers films. It remains to be seen how or if the studio brings back the character in the MCU’s future.

Jeremy Renner’s William Brandt Was Planned to Be Killed Off in Mission Impossible: Fallout

Outside of the MCU and the Avengers franchise, Jeremy Renner joined the Mission Impossible franchise as IMF agent William Brandt. The character appeared in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation. Even though he did not die in Rogue Nation, he did not return in Mission Impossible: Fallout, and the actor had a clear reason for it.

It seems director Christopher McQuarrie was planning to bring the Avengers star for a week of shooting overseas for Fallout and was going to kill off his character. However, Renner was not going to go all the way overseas just to be killed off and felt it was wrong. The Avengers actor said this on the Happy Sad Confused podcast,

I remember they tried to bring me over[seas] for a week so they could kill my character, and I was like, ‘No, you don’t get to do that. You’re not going to drag me over there and just kill my character,’ like get out of here! If you’re going to do this and you’re going to use my character, you’re going to do it right.

Renner also recently told Collider about how he was supposed to appear as Brandt in more Mission Impossible films, but it didn’t happen. In addition to Hawkeye, the actor is also open to returning as Brandt in the Mission Impossible franchise if they call him back. Renner is currently starring in season 3 of Mayor of Kingstown on Paramount+.
