Robert Pattinson shot to the A-list Hollywood ranks after The Batman stunned everyone with its adaptation of the titular character. The 2022 film received critical acclaim and even grossed $770.9 million on a $180 to $200 million budget. On the toes of that success, another opportunity in a freaky film came knocking on Pattinson’s door.

Pattinson once expressed that he only likes playing freaks and even described his version of the dark knight as such. So when it was reported that he was the top choice for the lead character of this weird film, fans were elated. However, there were concerns about the project as well as its history since the previous lead actor had died while filming it.

In 2022, Giant Freakin Robot reported that Robert Pattinson was the top choice for The Crow reboot. But the makers hadn’t approached the actor about it back then. However, this wasn’t the first time that a reboot of the Brandon Lee starring 1994 dark fantasy film was being attempted. Another DC star, Jason Momoa was also once in talks for the role. Test footage was even released and fans were ecstatic because Momoa looked great in the role.

But that film was never released. As for what The Crow is about, its titular character is a musician Eric Draven, who gets killed with his fiancé. He then gets resurrected and goes on a revenge-seeking path. The movie was an adaptation of the 1988 Crow comic book. While the film was a box office hit, earning $94 million on a budget of $23 million, there’s a dark history associated with it.

Brandon Lee who played the lead character of Eric Draven was fatally wounded during filming. As a result, many fans of the cult-classic film and its sequels think that the film will never get rebooted as it was Lee’s final role. Also, any actor stepping into the role will have a hard time trying to even match Lee’s success. As of now, it doesn’t seem like Robert Pattinson will be that actor because there have been no updates on the reboot.

Robert Pattinson has almost always chosen quirky characters and films. One look at his filmography post the Twilight saga shows that he has deliberately curated his career and chosen more off-beat films like The Lighthouse, Good Time, High Life, and more. In an interview with Total Film during the run-up to The Batman’s release, the Tenet star revealed that he loved playing weird and unpredictable characters. He said:

“I was aiming for quite different stuff…I just kept obsessively checking up on it (The Batman) for the next year or so. Even my agents were like, ‘Oh, interesting. I thought you only wanted to play total freaks?’ And I was like, ‘He is a freak!'”

As of now, The Crow reboot seems to be at a standstill since there haven’t been any updates on it. But Robert Pattinson’s career is moving at a breakneck pace. The actor is next set to star in Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17 and he will reprise his role in The Batman 2. While not much is known about Mickey 17, it’s supposedly about a human clone who gets constantly revived after his death. So it’s right up Pattinson’s alley.

The Crow is available on Amazon Prime Video, and The Batman is streaming on HBO Max.
