The characters of Antony Starr and Karl Urban in Amazon Prime’s The Boys obviously take center stage in the series. However, even as the two actors have been involved in a back-and-forth that has now spanned almost 4 seasons, this is not the first time that the two came together on-screen.
As it turns out, the two actors have previously also been colleagues via Syndication’s Xena: Warriors Princess, which starred Lucy Lawless in the lead. The series premiered way back in 1995 and lasted until 2001. Both the actors were not the global stars that they are today, as one would expect, but shared plenty of scenes via their respective characters.

There are a range of similarities between the characters of Homelander and Billy Butcher, both are as morally ambiguous as they come. However, while Starr made his TV debut via his cameos as Mesas and David in the 1995 series, Karl Urban was a TV veteran by the time the Syndication series came calling.
He played the role of Julius Caesar in the series most notably, but also appeared as Mael, Cupid, and Kor. Urban was also part of Xena: Princess Warriors’s sister show in the form of Hercules: The Legendary Journey, a character that he also portrayed in the original series.

Regardless, while the two actors have evolved into bonafide superstars via a range of roles, The Boys has certainly made the two global icons.
Still, quite surprisingly, the two met as comparative novices previously, and would thus have been quite familiar with each other once they reunited for The Boys. While Urban made his first appearance in Warriors Princess in the third season, he eventually earned a recurring role and portrayed Julius Caesar.
Starr, on the other hand, made cameo appearances twice. First, he appeared as Mesas in Episode 10 of Season 1, before showing up as David the Giant Killer in Season 2. And even if the two characters did not share the screen together, once can assume that the roles did play a part in developing the kind of chemistry that would prove utterly useful in The Boys, decades later.

On the other, Homelander is not that far behind. A certified psychopath right from the beginning, Season 4 gave Antony Starr plenty of time to showcase the kind of talent that he most notably showcased in Episode 4. Regardless, the two mortal enemies are headed toward a seemingly disastrous fate.
Billy Butcher walks around seeing hallucinations and has a huge brain tumor to contend with. Homelander is the prime antagonist and there are a range of characters in addition to Butcher who are currently searching for a way to stop him.
Of course, the past comes full circle in the sense that Butcher almost seemingly has a divine right over the Homelander, and is the only one cruel enough to go ahead with the creation of the supe-killing virus that holds the key to the Seven’s leader’s demise.
While Season 4 of The Boys has received some criticism due to its slower pacing, things are only hotting up, and fans can be part of the ride by tuning into Amazon Prime.
