This article on the original Netflix series The Brothers Sun Season 1 Episode 4, “Square,” contains spoilers.
The beginning of the Netflix series The Brothers Sun’s fourth episode titled, “Square” gives you a sense of community. For instance, the Sun family gathers around the table for dinner. That includes Elieen, Charles, Bruce, TK, June, and loyal Sun family associates, Xing and the lovable, Blood Boots.
After June warned Eileen (Michelle Yeoh) last week about Bruce (Sam Song Li) being confident and innocent to get himself and everyone else killed, she attempts to establish boundaries. One that gives Charles respect, and the other to keep Bruce at arms length away from the family business. This is to the dismay of Charles, who feels Bruce should do more to support the family.
This touch, and the third act action and plot twist, make “Square” the best episode of the season so far.
Netflix’s The Brothers Sun Season 1 Episode 4 Recap: Who is Drowsy Lee?
Drowsy Lee is the Charles Sun to Sleepy Chen, the muscle and son of the Sun family’s rival faction. Charles needs to set up a meeting since Sleepy Chen has arrived in Los Angeles. They picked a Korean spa because it’s open, has natural light, is hard to fight in sandals, and according to Blood Boots, the food looks delicious. Frankly, at this point, I’m positive this man is my spirit animal.
They have a connection because TK is Korean. As he puts it, the K-Spa is “in the middle of the cleavage of K-Town,” and he has a connection to the K-Spa owners, a Korean crime syndicate. Of course, TK is a screw-up. When they arrive, they have no respect for him. However, that’s when Drowsy shows up, already anticipating Charles’s (Justin Chien) next move.
The Korean group agrees to the “square” meeting on their property. They just have to make a down payment (which is over hundreds of thousands of dollars) and collateral. Charles offers up KT. He tells Charles his skills are better suited for anything besides being a hostage. Charles assures him that this is what the family needs.
Who attacks Alexis?
We don’t know who attacked Alexis (Highdee Kuan) in the parking garage in this episode. After she turns on the cell phone of a dead bad guy, she sees an encrypted message that suggests a meeting is taking place. When she arrives at her car, someone attacks her from behind, but she escapes by throwing some spicy Chinese chips in their eyes.
The Brothers Sun Season 1 Episode 4 Ending Explained: What Happens to Drowsy Lee?
Drowsy Lee is blown up by a suicide bomber. At the meeting, Drowsy abducts Bruce and makes him take the meeting with Sleepy Chen in the spa room. Bruce cannot speak Mandarin. So, he calls Charles, and he tries to translate what the mobster is telling the young college student. However, he mentions that he’s not the enemy, but they have a common foe.
That’s when two armed men emerge from hiding in the hot spa rocks and stab Sleepy Chen to death. Charles and Drowsy are now partners. Along with Blood Boots (who helps keep Bruce alive) and Xing, they fend off dozens of nameless masked attackers. Charles and Drowsy keep one alive to interrogate him. But as he runs away.
Drowsy has him cornered, but the assassin grabs him, revealing a bomb, and pushes the button. Drowsy is killed instantly, and Charles is sent flying across the room. He manages to escape, falls in the parking lot, and the police vehicle lights begin to flash.
