This article on the original Netflix series The Brothers Sun Season 1 Episode 7, “Gymkata,” contains spoilers.
The Brothers Sun’s penultimate episode, “Gymkata,” is an action-packed extravaganza. It starts with a series of hits by The Boxers, who take out the remaining Taipei Triad ghost heads. So, apparently, what Bruce told Grace was true? (It’s interesting, to say the least.) Those include Big Smile Shu, Frank Ma, Orange Lee, Curly-Haired Zhou, and Noodle Lips Xu.
However, Eileen set up the Boxers. She has now curried favor with the “Ghosts,” and now they are all coming to Los Angeles. This is the first time in 41 years to elect a new dragon head. That person is the supreme leader of all the Triads. Elieen plans to make them elect her. TK approves and tells Eileen to get hers.
The key is to have Charles endorse Eileen at the meeting so all the members will fall in line. He then agrees. Later in the episode, Eileen admits she gave Bruce the info knowing he would spill the beans to The Boxers. Does that mean she knew about Grace all along? Or even used Bruce as bait?
Netflix’s The Brothers Sun Season 1 Episode 7 Recap: Who arrives at Eileen’s House?
Ba arrives at Eileen’s home, and he brings Charles’s (Justin Chien) friends with him. (They are all hired muscle that works for the Jade Dragons and grew up together.) It appears that Xing sold them out. She has been keeping Ba apprised of the situation the entire time.
Also, Ba admits that he was faking his coma. He has been trained to withstand torture techniques. And a little prick of a needle in his fingernail would never work on him. This is confusing because Xing admitted to being the mole for Ba. However, we can chalk this up to Ba reaching out to Xing after Eileen (Michelle Yeoh) told Ba about her plans.
Ba now is taking over once again, and Eileen must go back under the shadows. He announces that Charles will take his place and will also be elected the Dragon Head. Ba also wants to take Bruce (Sam Song Li) back with him to Taiwan. He tries to entice him because of the Sun family’s connection in the movie business. Eileen relents in order to keep Bruce in America.
What deal does Bruce make with Grace?
Grace approaches Bruce in the quad, surprised he would have the guts to show up. In exchange for not killing him, he tells her that the heads of the Triads are in town today. Charles takes Bruce’s jacket by mistake before he heads to the meeting. That means he left the phone that is being tracked by Alexis (Highdee Kuan) at home. So, now, Alexis does not know the location of the meeting.
At the election, Eileen interrupts the election to announce she wants to be the new Dragon Head and not Charles. Bruce then feels guilty and calls June. Along with TK, they head to the hotel. Now, Alexis can see where the phone is headed, giving away that Charles is headed to the location. Right before the vote, Bruce sees a bomb planted in a place in the middle of the conference room.
Bruce then runs in and throws the device down a garbage shoot to the basement, blowing up where the police are approaching. A bloody fight of pure carnage breaks out between the police, the Triads, and the Boxers. All the heads are killed except Ba, who escapes with Charles. Eileen escapes with Bruce. June then kills Grace, getting revenge for her sister May.
The Brothers Sun Season 1 Episode 7 Ending Explained: Who does Bruce order Charles to Kill?
The Brothers Sun episode ends with Bruce ordering Charles to kill Bruce. This is after Charles realizes that his young brother tried to warn him earlier in the evening. Ba was so angry, that he even told Charles to kill himself, but he defied his father and refused.
