Baldur’s Gate 3 is very interesting in more than many ways. From all the character’s background stories to all the classes for players to pick. Lead Writer Adam Smith wanted to add depth to the character and wanted players to learn every details about characters.
The lead writer of Baldur’s Gate 3 Adam Smith poured all his energy into writing Minthara, his favorite character in the game. He managed to go so deep into her backstory that he almost breached the Fourth Wall like Deadpool himself.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Character which almost broke the Fourth Wall
In various instances, Baldur’s Gate 3’s characters have the “ability” to break the Fourth Wall, similar to what people have mostly seen in various Deadpool movies. During an interview, Adam Smith revealed that he nearly wrote a character, whose story narrative was so deep it was almost a ‘Deadpool moment.’
Adam Smith’s favorite character is Minthara, who holds a very special place in his heart. While writing her story, he deeply connected to her and her past. When attempting to explain Minthara’s true nature, Smith said:
We wanted to give her vulnerability, give her an actual character. The closest I got in my own writing in the game to completely breaking the fourth wall.
Smith explained that usually, any character’s death happens when players make the wrong choice or decide that they want to save that particular character, they like, instead. But Smith wanted everyone to enjoy and explore the full story of Minthara, who usually gets killed in the first act.
When asked about various fourth wall break moments, Smith said “The game saying, ‘Hey, we know what you did, we know what you did last time around,’ and I liked that line a lot.” He explained that the writers wrote those clever lines to keep the players in check and make them always focus on the story.
Baldur’s Gate 3‘s Deadpool moments
The dialogue within Baldur’s Gate 3 is very vast and riddled with various choices. Discovering a Fourth Wall break can prove challenging for most players as these choices usually follow a specific sequence. Many characters can shatter the fourth wall barrier and can engage with the players themselves.
All these clever moments in the Baldur’s Gate 3 story make the game a gem to play. Even replaying the game but following different paths can even make players find their new favorite character. For now let’s hope, that these clever moments will continue to be part of the Baldur’s Gate series.
