However, as the trailer progresses, unveiling more secrets about the enemy, the question arises how far would you go to protect us from them? And more importantly, who exactly it is that you’re fighting against.

John David Washington returns with another sci-fi hit

John David Washington is not new to Hollywood’s grand-scale experimental sci-fi movies. From The Tomorrow War, Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, and now Gareth Edwards’ The Creator, the former footballer turned actor has established himself as versatile enough to take on any character at the drop of a hat.

Not only that, but he had delivered some of the most remarkable dramas in the past decade such as Monster, BlacKKKlansMan, Malcolm and Marie, and Beckett among many.

As such, his new movie, especially one claimed to be a perfect contemporary of one of the most prominent movies of modern cinema history, aka, The Matrix, was already hyped beyond measure.

And the recently dropped trailer, in which he starts off by saying that he is not a good guy, only added to that already raging fire.

The Creator puts John David Washington in a fight for humanity

While the very recent development of AI in the past few years, has impressed and amused many, it has concerned even more. And not because of a very outrageous AI lording over humanity concerns, but real-world concerns. With new AI developments claiming they can replace human labor in various sectors, many people are suffering from terrible job insecurity.

And while a very serious situation hasn’t arrived yet, with AI being used as a tool to support not replace labor, artists and writers are already starting to feel some of the heat on their backs. So obviously, in a time like this, a grand battle between that very entity and the ones who created them, seems like the perfect setup.

The trailer opens with the information that AI detonated a nuclear warhead in Los Angeles ten years ago. John David Washington’s character Joshua blazes in hunting for Artificial Intelligence while the General’s voiceover echoes,

“For as long as AI is a threat, we will never stop hunting them. This is a fight for our very existence.”

All seems to be going according to plan until John David Washington along with his teammates reaches a certain place where a weapon seems to be hidden.

All ready to destroy it Washington closes the distance between him and the weapon, only to learn something that changes his perspective forever.

The trailer itself raises questions in the mind of John David Washington along with the audience as to who it is they are fighting. Who is the real enemy here?

Obviously, after such a powerful trailer dropped the hype has gone way over the head among fans waiting for the movie. It also has given people a lot to think about apparently, with the answers possibly on hold until September when the movie arrives.

The Creator is expected to release on September 29th, 2023.
