Oprah Winfrey Became Too Famous For Her Own Good
Most notably known for hosting her show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, Winfrey has been known around the world for her often controversial interviews. Sitting down for a chat with well-known celebrities who have often created some heat, Winfrey gives them a chance to share their side of the story with the world.
The actress has also done some work in movies. Roles such as Sofia in The Color Purple even got her an Academy Award nomination back in 1985. Keeping that career aside for the time being, Oprah Winfrey focused on her show and later became more successful as a host rather than an actress.
Her fame grew to greater heights, however, and reached the skies when she was rejected for a movie because she was deemed too famous for the role! Talking about the 2008 movie titled Doubt, the actress revealed that she was rejected for the role because the director was afraid that the attention would be more on Winfrey than his movie!
When Oprah Winfrey Was Rejected For A Movie
Speaking about the experience with a paparazzi via his YouTube channel, Adam’s Apple, the American host revealed that the director of the 2008 movie John Patrick Shanley rejected the actress for a supporting role because her fame was too big for a small screen time role!
“I wanted to be in ‘Doubt’ … the director told me ‘no,’ because [the screen time] wasn’t long enough to lose the Oprah factor.”
The harrowing thing is that the movie also starred veteran actress Meryl Streep and Viola Davis and yet, Oprah Winfrey was rejected. Doubt went on to receive a rating of 7.5/10 on IMDB and 79% on Rotten Tomatoes and Winfrey continued to be the host of her show, The Oprah Winfrey Show.
