My Hero Academia concluded on August 4, 2024, after running for almost a decade. Kohei Horikoshi reverted Deku to being Quirkless after he sacrificed the One for All against Shigaraki Tomura and All for One. But the fans did not find the ending up to the mark. They complained about the mangaka’s method of making Izuku Midoriya quirkless and took up a teaching job at UA.

A question was put up on Reddit asking whether everyone was satisfied with My Hero Academia’s conclusion. Different people had varying opinions, but one fan stood out with his answer. He said that Horikoshi always wanted Deku to be quirkless and fulfilled his wish after everything. There was a particular reason behind the mangaka doing such a thing.

Deku Was Destined To Be Quirkless

Deku started My Hero Academia‘s journey as quirkless. Later, he met his idol, All Might, who was impressed by his tenacity and willingness to help others. The number one hero decided to pass on his quirk, One for All, to the protagonist. From then began Deku’s journey to be the greatest hero. He achieved his dream by defeating All for One and Shigaraki Tomura but sacrificed One for All in the process.

My Hero Academia chapter 430 featured an eight-year time skip and revealed that Deku became a teacher at UA. His friends and All Might gave him a Battle Armour and helped him to become a hero again. A new fan theory explored the possibility for Horikoshi’s doings. Kohei Horikoshi’s initial plan was to keep Deku quirkless and give him a utility belt like Batman.

By the end of the manga, he implemented all his wishes onto the character. Even between the narratives, Horikoshi gave a hint that Deku was never suited to have a quirk. He could never use One for All to its full extent. He could only use it till a certain point. As the story progressed, he accessed the quirks of past One for All users and toggled between them during battles. It resembled the utility belt concept.

One of the fans said, “So yeah, the ending was basically him getting to do what he always wanted and have a Quirkless Hero Deku.” Deku was protected by his mother before inheriting the One for All.

After inheriting it, he not only saved his parents and friends, but he saved the entire world from destruction. Previously, he was hated by everyone, but when he became quirkless again, people respected him since he was the world’s greatest hero.

Kohei Horikoshi’s initial plan with Izuku Midoriya was halted by the editors who wanted a typical Shonen anime. But the mangaka did not intend to provide everything to him on a silver plate. Deku had a hard time trying to control his abilities. Even after training under All Might and Gran Torino, he could only use One for All to a certain ability. Later, he learned to use multiple quirks, but it did not make his life easier.

The situation of the Pro-Heroes changed when the League of Villains declared war on them. The light-hearted scenarios took a massive dark turn, with heroes falling every day. After many difficulties, the protagonist overcame all the barriers to become the greatest hero. He lost countless allies during his journey, yet never gave up on his hero’s way. In the end, he can still be a hero by guiding the next generation of Pro-Heroes.
