Getting rejected for roles in Hollywood is not a new thing for Scarlett Johansson. She has had experience with rejections since her days as a child actor. Be it her “husky voice,” which she is still carrying pretty confidently in her career spanning over 30 years, or her gorgeous looks, Johansson was never enough for certain directors.

David Fincher, the director of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is among the many who couldn’t cast Scarlett Johansson because she looked too “s*xy” for the role. It was later found out that she had actually auditioned for the role and she had performed well enough to get cast.

Was Scarlett Johansson Unfit For The Role of Lisbeth Salander?

Losing an opportunity to be working alongside the Casino Royale actor Daniel Craig is not something Scarlett Johansson could pass on without throwing some rejection tantrums. But she is actually fun about it!

It isn’t every day that directors reject an actress because they find her too “attractive” for a particular role. Even though Johansson gave an impressive performance in her audition, Fincher went through multiple auditions before he could find an actor who could portray the unconventional look of the character.

According to Fincher –

“The thing with Scarlett is, you can’t wait for her to take her clothes off. Scarlett Johansson had a great audition, but I keep trying to explain this; Salander’s character is like an E.T. doll. People would say, ‘What is this little squishy thing?’ But, when he hides under the table and grabs Reese’s pieces, you love him!”

Rooney Mara had been reportedly fighting for the role in the 2011 film and owned Lisbeth Salander like no other.

According to the Daily Mail –

“I would imagine when casting someone, you would want to challenge yourself in some way. It is so interesting to see actors transform. There are certainly plenty of times when I am definitely not sexy. The characters I play aren’t traditionally s*xy. Maybe it’s just the fact that I’m curvy and confident about it.”
