Rising to fame as Katana in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, Karen Fukuhara later found prominent fame after her appearance in the Prime Video’s comic book series The Boys, as Kimiko Miyashiro. But guess what? Despite Fukuhara’s fame and success, she falls prey to a stranger’s assault outside of a cafe.
Without revealing the location of the incident, Karen Fukuhara touched upon the grave issue that she faced, via Instagram. Throwing light upon the hate crime attack against Asian women and the elderly, Fukuhara claimed although she’s “physically fine”, the assault opened her eyes to one thing.
Karen Fukuhara Was Assaulted By a Stranger
Famously known for her roles in the DC movie Suicide Squad as Katana, and in the Prime TV show The Boys, Karen Fukuhara made headlines for being physically assaulted by a stranger. Visiting a cafe on Wednesday, Fukuhara revealed on Instagram that she was suddenly assaulted by a man outside the cafe in 2022.
Karen Fukuhara didn’t reveal the location of the cafe but simply discussed the terrifying incident that happened to her, via Instagram. Writing that the assault was “the first time I’ve been harmed physically”, Fukuhara discussed how she was “struck in the head by a man”. She then noted that, although she’s “physically fine”, the violence needs to stop.
“I rarely share about my private life but something happened today that I thought was important. I was walking to a cafe for some coffee and a man struck me in the back of my head. It came out of nowhere. We made no eye contact before, I wasn’t doing anything out of the ordinary. It came to my surprise and my hat flew off. By the time I looked back, he was a few feet away from me (he must have kept walking after hitting me).”
Thereafter, sharing the incident that terrified her to the core and made her feel unsafe and vulnerable, despite her star power, Karen Fukuhara began discussing a grave issue that’s plaguing society. Throwing light upon hate crime attacks on Asian women and the elderly, Fukuhara noted that it is something that needs to stop immediately.
Karen Fukuhara Touched Upon a Grave Issue
Facing a physical assault personally, Karen Fukuhara realized that it was time to throw some light upon the hate crimes that take place on a daily basis. Realizing the surge in such hate crimes, the actress used the hashtag “Stop Asian Hate” to accompany her post. She then discussed how she thought to confront her assaulter, but realized it “wasn’t worth the risk”.
“I thought about confronting him first, but he started coming towards me and I didn’t think it was worth the risk. After a few seconds of staring at each other and him yelling at me, he eventually walked away. This is the first time I’ve been harmed physically, although racial slurs and hurtful actions have been directed to me in the past.”
Having conversations with multi-racial friends of hers who had no idea that such racial hate crimes happen every day, Karen Fukuhara thought it was high time to raise awareness. Although she got lucky, Fukuhara believes much worse could have happened as her assaulter was armed.
“The shock of this experience has me thinking about taking self-defense classes. But why is this something we as ‘victims’ have to think about? What satisfaction are these perpetrators getting from hitting women, Asians, the ELDERLY? They need to be held accountable.”
After expressing her thoughts on the matter, Karen Fukuhara was supported by her The Boys co-stars. Her colleagues rallied around her in the comments as Chace Crawford and Jack Quaid shared their support and opinion on the matter.
