The reveal trailer for God of War‘s upcoming expansion called Valhalla came as a huge surprise for viewers of Game Awards 2023, as the show wasted no time in announcing it, making it one of the earlier standout moments.

Fans of the iconic father-son duo may be a bit disappointed, but series veterans will be extremely excited to find out that the latest Norse adventure will be a Kratos-only expedition. Players will get to join arguably the best video game dad to ever exist as he makes his way to the warrior “paradise” Valhalla.

Santa Monica Studio promises “a deeply personal and reflective journey” for Kratos in the upcoming God of War Ragnarok expansion, which is to be expected considering all of the grand and epic disastrous scenarios that went down in the base game. First revealed at Game Awards 2023, Kratos will be witnessing even more bizarre moments in the future, things that he and the fans “never thought possible.”

The most interesting aspect of the upcoming expansion is that it will be “inspired by the roguelite genre,” meaning that players will have to take on a series of “challenges” without dying, because once they do, it will start back from square one.

These challenges would test the “mind and body” of the players and Kratos himself as they embark on “an unraveling adventure,” complete with the intense and brutal “combat from God of War Ragnarok.” Santa Monica Studio also ensures that “brand new elements” will be added to make the experience feel fresh and exciting for God of War fans.

The greatest part about this surprise announcement at Game Awards 2023 was that it will be completely free to download and play when it releases on the PlayStation Store.

The even sweeter cherry on top about the God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla expansion announcement at The Game Awards 2023 was that fans would not even have to wait for too long to play it. It will be released next week, on December 12, 2023.
