Sydney Sweeney auditioned for Immaculate when she was 16-years-old

In an interview with Variety, the actress dwelled upon how working on Immaculate helped her push herself to a new area. She explained that she loves pushing the boundaries and limits of what people expect to see from her. Sydney Sweeney added,

“I wish that I had a formulaic answer for how I did it. But whenever a director calls ‘action’, it’s just like a switch. And I allow of Sydney’s thoughts and feelings and emotions to disappear. And I am now whatever character I am playing.”

The actress pointed out that in the final scenes of the movie, whatever the audience will see was shot in just one take, later adding that they did three versions of it so that they could have multiple options. Recalling the process from auditioning at the age of 16 to finally seeing it on-screen, Sweeney’s attempt to make Immaculate happen is appreciable. She mentioned,

“I auditioned for it when I was 16 and it was a very different draft. I called the writer, Andrew Lobel, and got the clean, original draft, then reworked it to fit who I am today, keeping a lot of the same themes and storylines. And one of the biggest ones that carried over was something innately in the project that, sadly, is still a topic of discussion today.”

The actress said that she loves it when a film has a variation of ideas and concepts and allows people to have their own opinions, something Immaculate has done as well.
