David Fincher’s directorial The Killer hit the theater a couple of days back and it received mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike. The film follows a meticulous assassin, known only as The Killer, as he carries out his assignments and grapples with his deteriorating mental state.
While some praised the movie, some found it overly violent and morally ambiguous. Meanwhile, another famed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro gives his view on this film.
The Killer In Guillermo del Toro’s Eyes
Guillermo del Toro, the visionary filmmaker, who has carved a niche for himself in the film industry with his unique storytelling and imaginative visuals took to X, formerly known as Twitter to give his review on David Fincher‘s helmed The Killer.
With some critics and viewers praising it and others finding it cold, detached, and even boring, Guillermo del Toro has some nice words to say about the Michael Fassbender starrer movie.
On his X account, he said that this was the breeziest film he has seen in a long time.
“The Killer is a beautiful Bronson movie if penned by Sartre and filmed by Melville with the briskness of a Siegel. I simply love, love, love when Fincher swings with a mean genre beat. Nimble and clockwork precise and fun.”
He continued:
“The breeziest film I have seen in a long time. It’s great when you can see a film and a movie at the same time.”
The Killer, is Fincher’s return to the genre that birthed his reputation, delving once again into the murky depths of the human psyche. Fincher’s signature visual style is on full display in The Killer, with each frame meticulously composed and imbued with a palpable sense of unease. While some critics have praised the film’s technical brilliance and exploration of complex themes, others have expressed reservations about its bleakness and lack of empathy for the protagonist.
How Movie Buff React to The Killer?
The film’s ending is as ambiguous as its protagonist, leaving viewers to ponder the killer’s fate and the lingering impact of his actions.
I saw it last night. I give it a 8/10. It wasn’t the most memorable of David Fincher’s movies, but that isn’t the point.

Very disappointed to watch this movie. Very slow, very simple but not a great storyline. Won’t rate more than 5/10.#thekiller pic.twitter.com/kx2rIhp01z

I was also disappointed. One of Fincher’s weakest works.

While it may not offer easy answers or provide a sense of catharsis, The Killer leaves an indelible mark, lingering in the mind long after the credits roll.
