The Last of Us has been a very successful video game franchise for the PlayStation. When the news hit that it was being adapted as a TV series, fans were excited for the same. It turned out to be a hit among fans as soon as it began on HBO.
The show is rated 8.8 on IMDb, and filming will commence in February 2024 for its second season. The latest casting announcement about the TV series has left fans buzzing, as it is another feather in the show’s hat, which has had a solid cast overall in Season 1. The latest addition to the list is another character initially introduced in the second game by Naughty Dog.
HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2 Finds Its Dina
Dina is a character on which players have had mixed opinions. Some fans can be heard complaining about the whole love triangle shenanigans the character is subjected to. Again, regardless of one’s opinion of the character, one cannot deny that she had good chemistry with Ellie.
As Season 2 of The Last of Us has been receiving announcements for it, the actress for Diana was revealed to be Isabela Merced. The show’s creators described her as:
Dina is warm, brilliant, wild, funny, moral, dangerous and instantly lovable…a free-wheeling spirit whose devotion to Ellie will be tested by the brutality of the world they inhabit.
In the video games created by Naughty Dog, a first-party PlayStation Studio, Dina was voiced by Westworld fame Shannon Woodward. After the announcement, Naughty Dog also posted on their official Twitter handle and celebrated it with fervor.
The show has seen a lot of success since its inception and has gathered plenty of laurels, including eight Emmy awards; this includes accolades in areas such as picture editing, main title design, prosthetic makeup, sound editing, sound mixing, and visual effects. It is worth noting that the show’s creators have a knack for good casting choices.
Both user acclaim and accolades received by the show, like the awards received by Storm Reid as Riley and Nick Offerman as Bill, are testaments to that.
Apart from Dina, other announcements about the second season of the TV series on HBO were also made. Young Mazino, for example, was recently announced to be coming to the series in the form of Jesse. The character description for the character reads:
a pillar of his community who puts everyone else’s needs before his own, sometimes at terrible cost.
As for other characters, Abby has also been cast, with Kaitlyn Denver playing the role in the TV series. All of the casting choices in the TV series will be seen in action in 2025, and since some viewers are also gamers who have played the two titles in the series, they will have an apparent reference for choices. Picking up titles like The Last of Us has been a big success in terms of viewership as well.
With The Last of Us Part II Remastered also dropping on January 19, more and more fans who have not had the chance to play the sequel will be drawn, thanks to the TV series. The TV series and the game’s remasters have been in good alignment so far and have done well for each other.
It is also worth noting that Naughty Dog has not lived up to expectations while remastering the first game, especially for PC, with optimization issues and bugs being rife. Despite that, one cannot argue that while some work has been lousy in the process, the IP has benefited immensely from timing the first game’s remaster with the TV series. More and more people now know or have a hint about it, and for good reason.
