This has not been Sony’s best year in terms of releases and games in general. The company has already hinted that 2025 will bring more important announcements that have not yet been revealed. For example, this year PlayStation confirmed the release of Concord, a new PvP hero shooter.

However, fans’ first impressions of this game were overwhelmingly negative, not understanding the company’s decision to fund a project of this nature. This is primarily due to the oversaturation of this type of game in the industry, which could have freed up resources for titles such as Twisted Metal or The Last of Us Online.

Was Concord the Best Decision for Playstation?

In an industry that is more than saturated with certain game genres and many live-service titles, PlayStation is once again investing in this with the release of Concord, a first-person action game that will be very similar to what Overwatch once offered.

Players will be able to choose different heroes to play in a PvP match against another team. Additionally, this game will feature weekly cinematics to tell the story behind these characters.

Many fans of this company don’t understand the decision to launch this game, nor do they understand the target audience. Even several industry personalities have expressed similar thoughts, believing that this game will probably end up being an absolute failure.

Sony could have given a new Twisted Metal game, or even the cancelled The Last of Us Online, a chance. But they decided to continue with this game instead.

There are a lot of comments on social media platforms, such as X, that are in a state of confusion, unable to understand why PlayStation decided this specific title.

Not long ago, it was reported that the company had canceled The Last of Us Online, a version set in this universe where players could face off in different factions. The company also canceled Twisted Metal, another project that will never see the light of day.

On the other hand, Sony acquires Firewalk Studios, the studio behind Concord’s development, and produces a game that doesn’t appear to have much chance of success.

As a result, the decision to fund a project that appears to be a clone of numerous similar titles in this genre is not easily understood by fans. Many players believe that the main feature will be the famous weekly cinematics, which might make a difference.

Next week, Concord will have an open beta for all players who want to try the title on both PC and PS5. Moreover, the official game will be released on August 23rd and will be available on both platforms simultaneously.

Expectations for this game are practically nonexistent, and players themselves do not anticipate much from the title, but there is always a small chance to surprise the community.

I'm a big fan of movies and videogames in general. I really love Pokémon and Godzilla. One of my favorite games is The Last of Us, Part II. A compelling and well-written story is always welcome.
