The first season of HBO’s The Last of Us TV series successfully adapted Naughty Dog’s 2013 video game of the same name. The 9-episode series was well-received by the fans and managed to win several prestigious awards, including eight Primetime Emmy Awards out of 24 nominations.
HBO renewed The Last of Us for a second season on January 27, 2023, and is all set to cover Naughty Dog’s 2020 sequel The Last of Us Part II (2020) for the show’s second season. The production was slowed down due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA and WAG strikes but the filming began in British Columbia last month. As fans get leaked photos from the sets, a latest image from a filming location has left them worried, especially those who have played the game.
Spoiler warning: Potential spoilers for The Last of Us season 2 ahead!
The new shooting location for The Last of Us Season 2 reveals shocking information
A page on X called The Last of Us News posted images of a new filming location for The Last of Us Season 2 in British Columbia. These images revealed that the shooting will take place in a large golf course and cabin. The fans who have played the game instantly recognized this location as it looks very similar to the one where Joel dies in The Last of Us Part II (2020).
Oh fun!! Excited for the new viewers to see how much golf comes into play in the apocalypse.
I think they’ll be surprised.

The fans of the TV show are certainly not ready for this shocking twist. Joel Miller is a fan-favorite, and was not killed off because he was a ‘bad guy’. He went on a killing spree at the hospital to save Ellie as he was not ready to let her die, something which cost him his life. It was a necessary procedure and would’ve saved lives as the doctors wanted to extract samples of her brain to study her immunity to Cordyceps.
Abby takes her revenge
In the game, Abby kills Joel for killing her father, Jerry Anderson, who was a Firefly surgeon. Joel kills him at the end of the first game in order to save Ellie. In the second game, Abby tracks Joel down in Jackson, Wyoming, and beats him to death in front of Ellie.
This storyline indeed attracted a lot of criticism from the fans as many expected them to reconcile. Instead, they got the worst possible scenario. So far, the leaked images from the sets indicate Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby Anderson will soon kill actor Pedro Pascal’s Joel Miller in the live-action series but fans will have to wait for a long time to know the outcome. HBO announced in December 2023 that the second season is set to premiere in 2025.
