There are a few time jumps in the original video game. There is, as we all know, a 20-year gap after the death of Joel’s daughter. However, there is another time gap in the video game, this time between part one and part two. The Last of Us: Part II takes place five years after its predecessor. Now, this small time gap did receive raised eyebrows from the fans in relation to the idea that Bella Ramsey’s Ellie could be recast in season 2. Why? Well, because while in the first part, Ellie is fourteen, she will be nineteen in the second.

It’s fair to note that a five-year gap is not that big of a deal in Hollywood, especially when they didn’t recast Pedro Pascal’s Joel after twenty years. However, that didn’t stop fans from speculating and they had even found their favorite choice for the recast – Alba Baptista. In the end, though, Ramsey has confirmed through Twitter that she will, in fact, be returning for the second season. She stated that she was “taking a ride with” her “best frienddddd (again)”.
