Mackenyu’s Father Gave Him Life-Changing Advice

Mackenyu has been witnessing the industry since childhood as his father Sony Chiba, was a legendary actor and martial artist. Despite his background in the entertainment industry, he was never pressured into becoming an actor by his father. Instead, he took inspiration from Japanese actor Haruma Miura. In an interview with Vogue, he talked about how he developed a love for acting and how his father’s advice helped him find his path.

“I have been very familiar with the industry since I was a little boy, but my father never pressured me into being an actor. It was something that slowly developed inside me over time. The most important thing I learned from him was to find my path in the industry. Just to be myself.”

Beginning of Mackenyu’s Acting Career

Mackenyu started acting when he was 16 years old. Initially, he got small roles, but as his career elevated, he started getting roles in live-action, movies and other series. He also made quite a noise in Hollywood by starring in movies like Pacific Rim and Knights of the Zodiac. Finally, he got a chance to show his talent through Zoro in One Piece live-action. While talking with Numero Netherlands about the start of his career, Mackenyu said:

“Initially, I wasn’t sure I was going to be an actor. But when I got into my teens, the acting bug hit me. I wasn’t sure how things were going to go, but my manager saw me in a short project when I was 16 and was impressed. That was the start and acting opportunities followed.”
