At the moment, there are a few different projects that are under development within CD Projekt Red, which will have them splitting their work staff. But right now, the company has two main focuses which are: the upcoming downloadable update for Cyberpunk 2077, titled Phantom Liberty, and the next installment in the new saga for The Witcher.

With these two significant titles being developed, CD Projekt Red has had to make the executive decision as to which game requires the most work and what is more important to develop currently. Given the fact that Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is set to release in less than a month, it would be a wise choice to keep their staff working on that project, until it is completed.

Since The Witcher’s new saga is still relatively fresh in development, it is understandable that CD Projekt Red is focusing on other projects at the moment. But once these other projects have been finalized, the company has already stated it will be moving a majority of staff from the Phantom Liberty team, which is set at 300 members, to The Witcher team, which is currently set at 260 staff at this time.

How Will This New Addition to The Witcher Franchise Join in with the Older Games?

So far, the only information we have regarding this new installment to The Witcher is that it is being classed as “a new saga” in the franchise. Thish could mean a lot of things about whether it is going to continue the story, but perhaps in a different location, or with a different set of characters. Some believe it will follow Ciri, but it could also be a total reboot of the series, leading to a whole new story that newer players can jump into and be a part of.

Right now, we know that CD Projekt Red is planning to release three games in this new saga of The Witcher over a six-year plan. The studio is currently utilizing Epic’s Unreal Engine 5 to run their games, rather than it’s REDengine. Unreal Engine 5 is a lot better at generating dynamic worlds, which is something that CD Projekt Red has always wanted to do with their games.

At the moment, the size of the team working on this new project and the fact they are working with a whole new engine to develop this latest saga, is a good sign. Many fans will be eager to jump into this new story told in The Witcher universe and it will surely be a fantastic new saga players will enjoy for many years to come.
