Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender has been making headlines for several reasons since the announcement of the live-action series adapted from the fan-favorite Nickelodeon show. In a recent update, Netflix revealed that the fantasy action adventure is renewed for two more seasons after its first season run.
Dallas James Liu, who played Zuko in the Albert Kim-created show for the streamer, confirmed the nod which, per the actor, will create opportunities for indigenous and Asian communities. However, a glaring mistake in the series contradicts the very notion of Liu’s hope. Fans have clearly pointed that out.

Dallas James Liu recently attended Vanity Fair and Instagram’s pre-Oscars party, Vanities: A Night for Young Hollywood, at Bar Marmont, and spoke with Variety’s Marc Malkin about the renewal nod from Netflix for two more seasons of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
“We have literally zero details,” Liu said. “I was hoping for something, but Netflix is staying pretty tight-lipped about it right now.”
However, the actor is excited for another specific reason as he hopes that the expansion of the show will create more opportunities for indigenous and Asian actors.
“The Asian and the Indigenous community have so many talented actors and actress. I feel like we could go in any direction that we’d like,” he told Variety.
Recently, the actor was invited to a Zoom call where his co-star Daniel Dae Kim pranked the young actors with the bad news, saying that the streamer was not able to confirm more seasons. However, later, he clarified his pranks, seeing the gloomy faces, “They are able to announce a Season 2 and 3.” It was certainly exciting for the actor and his co-stars as the renewal will create more space for them to explore and dive deep into the story.
Fans Pointed Out One Dire Mistake With Avatar: The Last Airbender
Liu’s comments on the update extensively show his enthusiasm alongside his co-stars. “It was a huge moment for all of us because we had spent so much time with each other on the project,” Liu told Variety. “After the release of the first season, the only thing we wanted was more seasons,” he added.
However, fans found a fatal flaw in his remark as, according to some fans, Netflix made a huge mistake casting a white actor, Ian Ousley, as Sokka. Originally, the character played by Ousley, from The Water Tribe, was primarily based on Inuit and other indigenous tribes. It is, as fans claim, one of the greatest mistakes if the show is keen on leaning towards inclusivity while others were seen rattled with the news.

Regardless, as Liu revealed, the upcoming seasons will explore and exploit more of the source material. Giving another hint, the actor further revealed that the upcoming seasons will have a different location moving away from Vancouver (where season 1 was filmed).
“We’re going to be in a completely different setting for Season 2, so we’ll see. I’m always down for a ride. I can’t wait to see what the writers have in store for us.”
The first season of the Albert Kim-created show has been an astounding hit with, per Netflix, reigned as the top English TV show with 41.1M views in just the first 11 days of its premiere. The show ranked No. 1 in 76 countries and ranked in the top 10 in 92.
