One such project was the sequel to his 2006 film, The Deserted, which was a critical and commercial success at the time. Though he tried his best to pitch another part for the widely acclaimed film, it ended up being futile.

The 51-year-old actor, Mark Wahlberg in an appearance on the KFC Radio podcast opened up about pitching a sequel to his 2006 film, The Departed. The blockbuster film comprised an ensemble cast including Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon. Helmed by one of the best filmmakers, Martin Scorsese, it did great in theatres.

Due to the film’s massive success, rumors circulated at the time that the helmer had already given the green light to its sequel however the former eventually clarified the rumors.

He shared that he and writer, William Monahan approached Warner Bros for the sequel however it didn’t go well. The pitching session happened after the movie won major film awards, which was the peak time for them to get approval.

He shared,

“Let’s just say the pitch didn’t go very well. He [Monahan] really didn’t have anything fleshed out, but he’s the kind of guy you just trust to go and write something.”

The duo has worked on some of the scripts together which is why they had hoped that that pitch would work out however it happened otherwise.

The actor did not go into further details about what exactly went wrong while pitching for the sequel to the successful film. However, he did mention that the studio wanted the script to be more planned.

“But they [the studio] like to have things well-thought-out and planned. So, that pitch didn’t go well.”

Not only that, but he also opened up about having Brad Pitt and Robert De Niro in mind to be the leading cast in the sequel. He shared, “It’d be a pretty good one” had the film starred the duo. The project never was approved as the studio deemed it to be expensive while the filmmaker was unwilling to return.
