The second season of Amazon Prime’s hit series Reacher could arrive later this year and the star of the show – Alan Ritchson is finally able to relish his time in the sun after struggling to land a breakthrough gig for over two decades.
While we can absolutely get behind his boulder physique as he punches and shoots bad guys, it comes as no surprise that he didn’t walk into the series with high hopes.
We’ve seen Tom Cruise try his luck with the franchise but fans couldn’t love the first installment as he might have hoped, let alone the sequel.
Ritchson, according to the critics, brings the exact representation of the character as author Lee Child has depicted him in his books.
Alan Ritchson’s DC Role Killed His Hopes For Reacher
With a fantastic initial season, DC’s Titans explored the lives of sidekick heroes building out their own universe. Ritchson was brought in as the iconic Hawk, but the showrunners killed away his character in the third season.
Warner Bros, according to Ritchson, went all out with their massive plans to reorganize their entire structure, which led him to believe that he may not find his place in an unstable environment.
“Warner Brothers rolling out with DC, this new platform, and they’re like, ‘This is gonna be monstrous,’ and it fizzled out. The platform’s not there anymore. It got swallowed up by HBO. You just never know what to expect. And so I sort of just go in expecting that and, you know, manage my expectations,” said Ritchson on The Rich Eisen Show.
Amazon hit the bull’s eye by signing on Alan Ritchson to play the titular character but, convincing him after his Titans fiasco must have been tough.
Reacher Unexpectedly Became Alan Ritchson’s Breakthrough Role
Portraying a retired army investigator living a frustrated life turned out to be a great fit for Alan Ritchson. He did fight villains in Titans but Reacher is way above the DC’s fictional series.
Wrongfully arrested for a murder and now helping police solve cases with Amazon’s deep pockets behind the camera, Ritchson did not see the massive fame coming his way.
He’s been vocal about the success of the show on several occasions, often calling it his favorite role so far.
“I walk down the street now and got 80-year-old grandmas that are like, ‘Reacher! Reacher, sign this napkin!’ Wow! Everybody is watching this thing,” claimed Ritchson.
After sharing the screen with heavyweights like Vin Diesel and Jason Momoa in Fast X recently, we can’t wait for Alan Ritchson to work alongside Henry Cavill in Guy Ritchie’s upcoming The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, set for a 2024 release.
